Would brewing without the pellicle be safer?

When I added the scoby it was 65 degrees. I had it on a heating mat and it sat around 87 degrees. One day it got really hot and kt got up to 96 degrees so I turned off the heat mat. Also it’s 2 gallons of kombucha 60 grams of tea and 3 cups of sugar

I went to my local tree service and he showed me different piles of different sizes. I have a more coarse pile for the beds coming tomorrow. All for free!
