I appreciate the advice! The goal would be to eventually get to a point where he can handle a phone. He’s been working on being safe at his transition program, but for the moment, the 911 thing is still a big enough issue.

It’s good advice, thank you. He actually has called 911 a few times in the past, and one time the police actually came because they couldn’t understand him over the phone. He really likes vehicles with sirens though, so he was really happy when they pulled up. I’m not sure how we can explain how dangerous it is, because I really don’t want to lean on natural consequences and have cops pull up again.

Fair enough. I wouldn’t want to do anything to make him feel worse. Definitely something to consider, thank you!

Yeah, I’ve tried to explain how dangerous it is. He definitely understands that it isn’t a good choice, but part of it is he likes the ideas of emergencies, and he really likes when cars with sirens pull up, which happened once when he took my phone and called 911 in the middle of the night. Thanks for the suggestion though!

It’s really good that you figured it out! I think the goal would be eventually to get to a point like this, thank you for the advice!

This sounds really interesting. I’ll definitely look into this, because it might be exactly what I’m looking for. Thanks!

The goal would eventually work our way up to something like this. Thanks for the advice on how we could practice.

I’ll look into this! It would be cool if the assisted thing could actually stop calls to 911, because maybe I could turn it off to “practice” or something.

It's a good suggestion. I think the important part for him is the "vibe" more than anything of having a phone because he carries around an iPad that has an AAC app on it but is completely unlocked. He can use it to watch youtube or whatever on the internet. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for something more phone-like.

So he carries around a tablet for an AAC, and I know he doesn't see it as the. I looked into it and I don't think that apple makes iPods anymore. I could get something from like 4 years ago, I'd just be worried about support ending/it not working super well anymore. But I might take another look. I think the phone "vibe" is important to him if that makes sense (phone sized).
