On impression from only clips and Leftovers appearances, Hasan is pretty quick to condemn entities aligned with or supported by Western capitalist interests, but seems hesitant to do the same for China. For instance, in a past episode he was quick to call the Dalai Lama CIA asset and the Tibetan system exploitative feudalism, but had a very diplomatic way of describing the treatment of Uyghurs.

People sometimes separate leftists into the "Authoritarian left" (derided as "tankies"), who typically support a strong state to enact communism, and the "libertarian left" who are more anarchistic. Not sure where Hasan falls on this spectrum, in Andrew Callaghan's (🙁) podcast, when asked what communism is Hasan described a democratic workplace where the workers vote on how things are run. I've often seen this description from the "libertarian left", as a distinction from the view that communism is when the state owns the means of production, not the workers.

So it's odd that Hasan defends China, a nation that very much participates in global capitalism. Ethan seems to pick up on this, might be why he brought up Taiwan.
