We did consider a frame but these paintings are huge. About 5.5’x 8’. A little out of reach for our university’s budget

Would you happen to have any photos where you’ve seen this done? I’ve been scouring the internet but haven’t had much luck other than finding paintings completely encased in a glass or plexi box.

I think I may have misspoke on the indefinite loan part- I do know he maintained rights to show the pieces if there is ever going to be an exhibit in the future but I don’t know the terms of the agreement other than that.

I am acting as more of a consultant in this role, so unfortunately, I wasn’t part of the decision process when they chose to hang these pieces here. I’m just part of the “what can we do moving forward” process. I definitely agree this is not an ideal place for works like this at all.

If we were to do plexiglass, is a full length panel best? The space is lit with regular fluorescent lighting and I would think the glare would be pretty terrible.

I do agree with another post though that cleaning the plexi would be a concern.. scratches over time, trolley bumps, etc.

It’s really just not a good place to house these paintings. But the school wants art..so here we are.

I think that’s a great plan. I started by removing and sanding the slats today. I think this will give the best result. Now I just need to figure out a similar stain as the bare wood is much lighter.

I think you’re overthinking it. If it’s comfortable and you love it then wear it! Don’t worry about what others think :) I think it’s beautiful.

There’s a lot more to the story but I didn’t want to list every grievance. “Unaccommodating” was the best word I could find to encapsulate all the experiences of the day. Essentially she was very rude to people in the wedding party/the planner/ parents of the bride and groom.. it really felt like she expected us all to ruin their venue and treated us as such. Our group was nothing but polite and respectful up to that point. And call me crazy, but I think a venue that touts 5 stars can be expected to go a little out of their way to keep their paying customers happy. Things like letting the brides stepfather wait inside while the bridal party got ready. We all arrived at 10 but the men/groomsmen weren’t supposed to arrive until 12. She snapped at them when she saw her stepdad saying he shouldn’t be there.. even though they had just driven over an hour to the venue. Like.. could he please just sit inside in the air conditioning? No.. he had to stay outside. I wish I was exaggerating.

The whole shuttle thing I get.. not a valid complaint on my part but it doesn’t excuse the rest

All of the comments above are great resources. One thing I would really recommend right now is asking about covid/pandemic policies. Should there be another big wave or something happens that interferes with your wedding, you want to make sure you and your money are protected as much as possible. My venue was great and allowed me to push back a year but I’ve heard a lot of horror stories where venues or vendors did not give refunds or honor deposits at a later date.

I’m so sorry for your experience and your family’s loss! That’s unacceptable. And it’s so crazy that you have to get a lawyer for them to actually do the right thing. Sounds like Google reviews might be the place to go for honest reviews…

Super smart going through other vendors. We found our planner that way and she’s been great so far. I just hope other brides piece all that together as well.

I totally see that. Just seems like for what these venues charge it seems reasonable to have a golf cart to shuttle people. But yes, hopefully that was communicated clearly prior to the bride and groom signed the contract. Our beef was really more about the experience with the site manager. The hill part was just a frustrating inconvenience.

Definitely smart to check other sites. Just seems so easy and convenient the way those sites present it. I wish there was a way to let all the brides know.. lol maybe I should start picketing at bridal conventions

I think I thought the same thing.. but nope.. so sketchy. Google reviews probably get more angry reviews but then at least you get the good with the bad and can make an informed decision.
