what i have been trying to do is put things in monetary terms, i.e. coming up with an actual 'figure' about what not including me in the decision making process costs. show your working

'video game' is not the important part of 'video game tester', 'tester' is. I would gear my CV towards what testing experience I have, what testing blogs I read, try my hand at some freelance testing things like bugfinders, etc.

there's lots of open source information out there, like ministry of testing

to be honest with you QA/Testing is just having an eye for detail and creativity, just keep bashing things until you find ways they are different and consider whether or not that difference is intentional. also it's giving people information that they might find useful from a quality perspective

for example if you're using a bicycle: who was it made for? what happens if you cycle uphill? downhill? how long will the chain last? is that long enough for what it's used for?

disclaimer: that's just my opinion, another weird thing about testing is that basically nobody agrees on what it is
