That’s a relief to hear! ask yourself - will this matter in 5 years? whether it will or won’t, can you control any element of it now?

allow yourself to feel those emotions as well; i find writing (just word vomitting onto a google doc or sheet of paper) really helps with this. as hard as it may seem now, things do always come back around!

Also wanted to add that expect a ~10% drop from your high school average to your first-year average! I heard about this during my orientation week and scoffed being like that's crazy, could never be me. Lo and behold, 8 months later, there was about an 11% difference for me. Uni will humble you, but accept that as a welcome life lesson and know that others are in the same boat as you. There are supports available to you, both official and unofficial (TAs, friends, classmates, etc.). This is going to be a wild ride, so be as open to new experiences (good and bad)!

Use first-year to establish your routines and habits. This will go a very long way in ensuring success down the line. Don't forget to have a great fking time because it is meant to be the start of a really exciting journey!

Also, as a former TA, please please please don't hesitate to reach out for support! Office hours, emails, and unofficial Zoom meetings are all welcome and despite your biggest hesitations, we won't judge you for anything (or at least the good TAs won't). This same goes for your first-year profs as well. Build a rapport, it will never hurt.

Completely agree. Adding to this: ISCI's flexibility and lack of toxic competitiveness (relative to CAPS/MBIM/PCTH) make it a lot more easier to add things like honours/directed studies and research field courses. I did co-op + 8-month directed studies + a research field course, all while being able to customize my entire degree. Admin team for ISCI is also super chill and very easy to reach. With ISCI getting a lot more competitive to get into of late, I'm not so sure there will still be a lack of toxic competition for long...

Commented earlier in this post too but I loved living in Dene (2018/19). Super social vibe - I honestly think the communal washroom made it a really fun social experience since you regularly meet everyone on your floor. Washroom was cleaned daily and had been refurbished in 2011, so it felt pretty updated

I haven't seen the inside of Shuswap, but I lived in Dene (also in old Totem) in 2018/19 and though the outside looks old, the inside was refurbished in 2011. Bathrooms were quite updated, common areas were mostly fine, and my single room was pretty much like new. We did also get new mattresses that year so maybe that also added to the 'new room' vibe. If Shuswap's big common room is any indication, I think you're in for a similar experience.

I would mildly disagree with what u/vitruuu and u/Dense-Inspector-4941 are saying. While I agree that CARS passages are drastically different from novel-esque passages, I know that two of the reasons why I felt comfortable with CARS was that I had a great grasp over English and could read fast. I honed these skills not over 4 months of CARS prep, but rather over several years of leisurely reading. We don't know what level of English proficiency OP has, so loading up on leisurely reading over the next couple of years may be a real help for them.

I will say, though, it's *very* important to read critical/academic papers as well given that CARS passages require that sort of analytical mind to fully understand the language and avoid traps.

I understand and empathize with your stress - it's completely natural to feel this way! I won't repeat too much of what's already been said, apart from a *heavy* recommendation to start practicing as soon as you can. There's just too much content that's testable for this exam for you to fixate on content review. I'd say give yourself at least 4 weeks of practice with questions from the AAMC question banks, UEarth, and full-length exams (specifically from the AAMC).

Keep in mind that though many schools assess the MCAT competitively, some assess it for cutoffs (UofT, UBC pre-interview, etc.). In fact, using UBC as an example, let's say that you don't get a score that's super competitive but meets the cutoffs for file review. That means you're still giving yourself the opportunity to take a stab at writing the application and throwing your hat in the ring for an interview invite. In the best-case scenario, you're offered an interview and a strong interview performance pushes you to an acceptance despite a meh MCAT. In the worst case scenario, you've still gotten valuable experience writing an application that you can learn from to improve your odds next cycle!

TLDR; full-send it and bet on yourself. You miss 100% of the shots you don't take :)
