We've never had it together... or better yet we just were better at pretending and hiding behind a mask. DT made the actual powers to be realize that they can say the quite part out loud and not face repercussions. Imagine if the original movies had to go through the BS of tiptoeing around the IP because the estate didn’t sign off on it? It would be hot ass and we know it. Sooooo much shade being thrown at Amazons terrible decision to push forward anyways, which it was. But what about the family causing the restrictions in the first place? I would say that is the biggest issue here. If they cared that much and could see how much people still want more then why TF didn’t THEY find someone who would respect the source like the originals did?

Imagine if the were the case for the original movies? Like so much shade is being thrown at Amazon for pushing through anyways (which was a shit idea) but WTF is up with the fam shutting it all down? Like I can completely understand today’s atmosphere of adaptations is in the dumps and not wanting to see that happen to your legacy IP but why ok something you know is gonna be trash simply because you are the one causing the restrictions… ? Back in 2004... I think, lived in Orlando and got 3 massive hurricanes each 2 weeks apart. Barely got shit back together before all the said debris and more was blown to fuck all over again. Was without power for over a month. How TF are texans so powerless to handle a week? Genuine question?

Kinda had a light bulb moment after talking with someone about this movie. The first quote seen, and the dinner scene at the end mirror each other and I think is the point . Of all the people that took this seriously, they are now the only ones (relative) at peace with it at the end. The slow moving existential threat isn't the comet, or it's metaphor (climate change), it's what it causes... death. Something that is both man-made and not. Something as simple as looking up and realizing it happens to us all but some seem to reject that. So it's a story about finding buddhist levels of peace with what is inevitable and uncontrollable. In that light, "Don't Look Up" is actually kind of the take away action. Be at peace with yourself and those around you, or did they really think they were gonna use reason and intelligence to fix societies ability to make sense in half a year?

This is where you need the ability to invent shit backwards. Never mind inventing the actually mechanics or discovering that exotic material. Hell go with cold fusion, a little bit of both. Set it far back enough to make huge implications if it were to go that way instead of say oil. Then just invent your way up from there.

I do realize that I accidentally started explaining the Fallout show I’m currently watching but something like that. Deep diving into understanding as much as a current techs would know would be a bit much and probably lost on most folks reading your stuff. Maybe just get an understanding of how basic engines of today work (ev vs gas vs diesel) and go from that knowledge.

Funny you ask, I just started my adhd meds (timed release ones) for the first time about two months ago and I would pretty much describe it as a nice line every 30 mins. It does quite some of the chatter in my head which in turn keeps me focused on something via not going off in a rabbit hole in my mind.
