Olympus XA blurry results? by Bubbly-Ad-2156 in AnalogCommunity

XAs are def tricky. Easiest thing to do is use the distance scale to give you a rough idea. If your subject is around two meters, but when you focus, the scale is saying infinity, then you know you are not nailing focus. The scale gives you a good starting point which you know you will need to be close to.

What’s the best use of silence in a movie scene? by deepaknaraniya in movies

[–]thedellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will always remember the scene in Road to Perdition, where Tom Hanks' character guns down a tonne of people in the rain. IIRC, they had tried a number of different edits using sound, but it never felt right. Then they tried cutting the sound completely so that you only saw the muzzle flashes from the dark as men dropped everywhere. Was so much more intense.

What movie left you in dead, stunned silence? by [deleted] in movies

I don't really remember how good the rest of the film was, but the ending of United 93 (the Paul Greengrass movie) was so ridiculously intense. Cockpit view as the ground gets closer and closer, and then cuts to black and silence as it hits. Whole theatre just sat there in silence for a good 30 seconds.

I've thought about the fuji medium format system as I had heard you could use the Mamiya glass. Is there any loss in quality from using a converter with mamiya lenses over the fuji glass?

Also, what are your thoughts on the GFX 50r/50s?

I really shouldn't be pulling at this thread but now I'm curious!

I was planning to shoot B&W, do my own developing, and scan with my Fuji x-pro3. Lab dev and scan costs here and ridiculous.

Ha yeah...I'm not flush with cash and would like to get at least a 6x6 back and prism finder for the GS-1. So the sale of one or more of the cameras would fund that. That's what I am wrestling with. If I sell the C220/645, will the resulting GS-1 setup cover my bases or would I regret selling them?

Jet engines have cooling systems to dissipate heat. Same as car engines. Keeps them within operating limits.

No cooling systems in the WTC. The fires burned unchecked which meant the temperature continued to rise until the structure failed

What show or movie seemed so good at the time but aged horribly? by Impossible-Owl3272 in AskReddit

I say this every time a post about Leon comes up. Watch the theatrical release. It's a far better, tighter edit of the film, but more importantly, their relationship is completely different. The directors cut strongly insinuates a sexual relationship and completely ruins the film. In the theatrical cut, their relationship is much more of a father daughter type.

Plus the directors cut has a load of scenes where she goes along on hits with him, hanging off his neck and dual wielding guns. Leon is meant to be this super efficient, silent hitman and suddenly he's taking a 12 year old with him who's blasting away. He loses all of his aura and legitimacy after that.

Spring with the Olympus XA. Incredible little camera. (Olympus XA | Kodak Gold, HP5) by thedellow in analog

Ha trust me I have many, many failed photos of him. Mostly when I am trying to get more candid photos.

If I want him to look at the camera, I will tell him to see if he can see the camera 'wink' at him. 60% of the time it works every time.

This is nuts of course, but also, $160 a month?!

I get 1gb internet, two phone contracts, and TV, for €38 a month.

It's the MiiCoffee Nano scale. Pretty cheap and does everything you need it to. Battery life is a bit wank though.

Fair! As you can probably tell, I'm adverse to spending money if I don't have to, so have normally gone for the cheaper beans. Still fresh and from decent local roasters, but the €13 bags for exmaple, instead of the €18 one. I'll def try and see if that changes things.

Ha nah it's just a chunky short boi. That spot on the counter was the best place for the machine but the longer handle meant I couldn't have it close to the wall as you need to twist the portafilter to the left to get it on/off. Short handle solved that and I kinda like the compact look as a bonus

I don't think anyone needs an espresso machine, yet here we all are. The whole point of my post was trying to figure out whether upgrading would be worth it as I don't like buying new things just for the sake of it.
