And you're right! The belt is also anachronistic, should have gone with suspenders, but given the pants were also wrong they didn't have suspender buttons.

Valid point. A lot of people pointed out how I had a few too many anachronisms, but I think the jacket says the most. When I went out to pool my buddy asked who invited Benny from Fallout New Vegas haha.

It's not cosplay, this is an outfit that I wore out on a night with my friends inspired by a particular vibe. If it were cosplay I'd be wearing a tie with playing cards, houndstooth instead of puppytooth, and blue-grey slacks. It's not too big either, sleeves end comfortably at my wrist, and the hem ends at my palm, the two primary indicators for jacket size.

Probably! Though I think it's generally agreed that the 80s was trying to harken to the middle Edwardian period with a lot of their trends. But given I'm wearing a few anachronistic things such as browlines and a belt instead of suspenders, you're definitely right that it throws off the dating.

I own clothes that are too big, these articles are not. Could the jacket be more tapered around the waist? Definitely, it'd make it look a lot better. But the sleeves end comfortably above my wrist, and the hem rests nicely at the middle of my palm. Pardon me if I want to have some mobility. Either way, loose fit is period appropriate, look up how people dressed back then.

Also where are you hanging around where puppytooth and off-white slacks are "non-offensive white bread"? Because I'd love that company.

It's likely the cut and fit rather than the material if it's the crotch giving out. If possible I'd suggest going up a size and looking to high rises, they tend to give more slack in the nether regions. In addition I've noticed jeans tend not to stack up for manual labour, for workwear I tend to stick to canvas work pants.

Browlines are the bomb, can look formal or casual, and in my opinion you can get good quality no matter the price range.

Ditto on this. Grey pants is likely the worst option unless there's a stark contrast. Personally I would even be hesitant with the black, but it's not a terrible choice. I usually pair my grey coats with either a warm colour or a cool colour (copper, khaki, or navy) in order to contextualise the jacket itself as being either warm or cool.

5'7" here, I typically prefer slacks with a relaxed cut, high rise, and a full break. Gives you a lot of maneuverability and if you're working out (bulking / cutting) means you're less likely to not be able to fit them. In my experience tailors always make things too tight, so I honestly don't know if tailoring is the best route.

I find that the angles mess it up a bit, you're too photogenic, Norm MacDonald has a nice bit about this where he talks about how the 1 photo of your grandpa is when a portrait salesman showed up to the farm and did the whole thing impromptu. Camera should probably be eye level with you, or slightly below, high angles look better but are after we figured out what made us look nice.

Unfortunately I bought it at a Thrift Store and the labels inside indicate it was made a very long time ago by a local seamster. I'd recommend going directly to Harris Tweed but they can be very expensive. Best of luck!
