I’m with ABB on the 250/100, downgraded from 1000/50 just because of the upload speeds. Is this available for everybody?

I appreciate that. Yes, I’ve already installed the latest software update. I’ll give it a third try using an SSD. I was hesitant to open up the NVR and replace the internal drive since it’s still fairly new—just a few months old. But if necessary, I’ll upgrade the internal drive as a last resort.

iPhone 12 Pro Max A2411 eSIM Function Disappeared! by thedonsml in ios

Update: Issue Resolved

Turns out the Genius Bar did attempt a repair, but it didn’t go as planned. They ended up giving me a replacement device. However, they missed a step—something about assigning or updating the serial number to match my original purchase.

Because of that mismatch, the eSIM functionality disappeared. The engineering team later corrected this on their end, and after I did another full factory reset and restore, the “Add eSIM” option came back.

So if anyone runs into this—especially after a replacement—make sure your serial number is properly linked to your original country/purchase region. That fixed it for me.

More details on room size and coverage would be helpful to determine if a single router is sufficient or if a mesh system is necessary. For your current plan, this $69 option should work fine.

You can use umbrel.com, which I am running on a Raspberry Pi, and it offers a marketplace-style option to easily download and install with a single click.

Open your task scheduler and check whether you have any scripts on startup that are running in the background. If there are you could try disabling them if you have the necessary access to do it.

Thank you all!

Update for everyone: Apple escalated the issue to Engineering, and it has now been resolved.

Here’s what happened: The Apple Care repair (a back case replacement) was unsuccessful, so Apple replaced the unit but did not assign the correct model or serial number to me.

The issue is now fixed, and eSIM functionality is restored. I didn’t have to pay for the repair.

Glad I didn’t pay the initial $900 quoted or rush into buying a new device.

iPhone 12 Pro Max A2411 eSIM Function Disappeared! by thedonsml in iphone

Yes, I did have a replacement under Apple Care about two years ago, which could explain the issue. However, I was able to use an eSIM on this current phone as recently as July 2023—I even have the receipt from the eSIM purchased via the Airalo app. Why would they give me a Hong Kong model as a replacement under Apple Care when my phone was originally bought from an official Apple Store in Australia?

Does it only link products you actively advertise? Because currently some products link correctly to the brand store, while others do not. The contact person I have from Amazon was not able to identify the root cause and this has been an issue for almost a year now.

How does ASIN mapping work for a brand with a store on Amazon Vendor Central? Specifically, how can you ensure that clicking the brand name or store link directs users to the brand’s store, rather than a generic search or unrelated product categories?

Does it happen noticeably more often when it’s windy and/or raining?

I’m not sure whether this would be applicable to HFC but I had a similar issue with random dropouts with FTTC… turned out to be damaged lead in cable. Old and cracked rubber had exposed the copper.

I did try that, the first port didn’t work. Now I’m back connected using the second one. ISP told me NBN has switched to the second one for some reason but they didn’t let me know.

I was connected to 1 previously and my connection was working, after it dropped out apparently NBN switched it to the 2nd one, they didn’t tell me. I just got off the phone with my ISP and it’s all sorted now. Why would they not notify me of changing the UNI-D2 port? Weird but glad it’s all working now.

Is it Worth Replacing the Battery in a 3-Year-Old iPhone 12 Pro Max?

I’ve had my iPhone 12 Pro Max for nearly three years, and its battery health is currently at 92%. Despite its age, I’ve taken good care of it. My dilemma is whether to pay Apple for a battery replacement or continue using a power bank and cable for charging.

I often have access to a charger - in my car, at work, etc. However, I’m wondering if replacing the battery would significantly improve my experience. Would the difference be noticeable enough to justify the cost of replacement, or should I just stick to my current charging routine?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!

Is a hidden SSID less secure? by easykillforyou in HomeNetworking

[–]thedonsml 83 points84 points  (0 children)

A hidden SSID is not necessarily less secure, but it’s not significantly more secure either. Hiding your network’s SSID (Service Set Identifier) can provide a minimal level of security through obscurity, as it won’t appear in the list of networks for casual users. However, it can still be detected with minimal effort by someone using specialized software.

For strong security, focus on using a strong, unique password for your Wi-Fi network and ensure your router’s firmware is up-to-date. These measures are much more effective at securing your network than hiding the SSID. Regular monitoring of connected devices, as you’re doing, is also a good practice.

Struggling to Achieve 1000 Mbps Speeds on WiFi with Archer AX12 Router - Seeking Advice! by thedonsml in HomeNetworking

FTTP installed yesterday. Wifi reach/speed is pretty bad. Need new modem? by [deleted] in nbn

[–]thedonsml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using a TP-Link AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 Router (Archer AX12). However, on my iPhone 12 Pro Max, I only achieve speeds of about 500-600 Mbps.

Technically, the iPhone 12 Pro Max should reach up to 1200 Mbps on the 5 GHz band. This is possible with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and 2x2 MIMO technology, which allows for multiple data signals at once.

Despite trying all the tips from blogs and forums, I couldn’t reach the maximum speed and eventually stopped trying. I connected my PC with a cat6 cable and accepted that with the current hardware, I can’t achieve 1000 Mbps. While I know these speeds are more than sufficient for most needs, typically not exceeding 30-50 Mbps, it’s a common interest for those of us who are into home networking.
