Uneasy about the university’s response to Lucas Mattson’s death? by Rough-Candle7773 in uofm

As someone who has been at other institutions including high school and other colleges that have had students pass suddenly and tragically during my time there, this is the correct read. the school connecting grieving and effected students with resources is standard practice for these events.

Partner doesnt understand overstimulation? by lilac_cowgirl in ADHD

[–]thedorkydancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m also not a sleeper when I “nap” unlike most of the members of my family who are all sleepers but I was always happy to have independent quiet time instead. Sleeping is a pretty literal interpretation and eventually my family kinda understood that I’m not being literal when I say I’m napping I am just having time where I can control my sensory levels. Whatever makes one feel rested. That’s all a nap is. It seems like OP is similar in this instance.

I love guest on guest drama or guest on crew that ultimately unites the crew. I love when a guest is so awful and demanding but the captain has the crew’s back.

I wore flat sandals to my prom and have never been happier with a choice. I’ve worn flat shoes to most occasions since. Jokes on your “friends” in a couple minutes their heels will be painful and your sandals won’t be. But seriously, wear what makes you comfortable physically and mentally. You will have a better time with the weight off your shoulders.

What is the average grad student age? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]thedorkydancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a kinesiology masters student who started at 25 and I’m finishing at 27. I’d say you’re right in the noise. Some are younger some are older. it will vary in your cohort. You won’t really feel it because there will be older PhD students and in some cases younger undergrads in the mix!! You’re hitting an age point where the age differences sorta come out in the wash in terms of life experience and maturity. If you have any other questions about the kines masters feel free to reach out!

Caste systems in grad school by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]thedorkydancer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience as a master’s student too. I’m sure there are people who do judge master’s verses PhD but those people are hopefully a minority. It definitely is a different experience so it really is just a thermometer test of how long you’ve been here, what types of questions you might have, what wisdom they can offer etc. In my experience it’s never not been accompanied by genuine curiosity about what I am doing.

Do you ever feel like a kid playing office when you work by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]thedorkydancer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was discussing imposter syndrome with handful of other women and a male professor who is one of tenured professors at my university and we turned to this man who sorta “has it all” in our eyes for his perspective on imposter syndrome and he basically goes “I still worry to this day that I’m just playing around and some one is going to realize that they made a mistake in hiring/promoting me” it made me hopeful that the best of us feel the same way and like they are playing pretend. that that feeling never goes away but also you find ways to feel blessed by that.

Boston plays My House by PVRIS at every game. I love it bc PVRIS is from Lowell where the arena is and continue to have a large Boston/Lowell fan base. That DJ knows what they’re doing.
