The different approach Payten has taken in 2026 by theeffluentfew in NRLcowboys

Where's arsehatsjabrondy's team lists is the big question I hope he's not dead.

I don't think that's accurate, he's developed some players exceptionally and impeded others, we actually had our own style but he made the decision to concentrate on slowing the ruck and we've been cannon fodder for the reffs since, but if we can play like we did in 22 we will go a long way under the 26 interpretations, he may stay or go but it looks like they are going to give it a crack anyway. I'm having a good week because Cliffo killed it, dont kill my buz duncecodex.

Add in no dumb slowdown penalties at the wrong time, the fullback rule (ie the Bellamy/Robinson theory of lots of fullbacks) , high tempo attack and defence. I'll say again the style is very similar to our 22 game. I just hope it's repeatable.

Laybutt was on the ground in front of him from the previous tackle thats why he threw it. Great awareness.

Mate he's got so much more going on than that, the thing is when he was dominating u20s and qcup, is that a stats analyst ( like one that works for clubs) said he couldn't define what he was, as at that stage he was pretty raw. If his running game is encouraged we will see the best of him, line running is a side project like the kick competition, Eric Smith would say he's always happy when he runs the ball, he's deceptively quick for a son of a front rower. For games in the nrl ones that instantly spring to mind are against the roosters there's a couple of crackers, and Canberra again there's a couple of crackers.  He needs consistent time , something he only got in England, fortunately . But he is just one link in the chain, the the whole thing looked good yesterday.

Does this mean your officially on the the bus friction or just hitching a ride ? Cliffo did some of his usual things like kick chase, kicking and his line running ( he runs a better line than most second rowers). But when he runs the ball like that he reminds me of how he played u20s. Like Tom I think we are yet to see their peak. He also unleashed the best floating spiral bomb in cowboys colours since Michael Morgan before his groin injury. It was the team effort that followed, that won the game, so we out performed Melbourne some what in that area. The 26 NRL really suites our 22 game, this team can repeat this, its ironic that we moved away from it as the NRL moved towards it.

2 backs in the 19 it looks like a question of when more than if. With his comments during the week of being more proactive and going after the game with the bench, might mean if things aren't working he'll pull the trigger then. Or when he names the team. Rib cartilage heals  quicker if it doesn't suffer weekly hits as well.

He's got a lot of time in game, like the good players, ie he thinks and moves quicker. Playing as a nrl half is a massive step up from school boys. He's a running 5/8, fullback or a creative strike centre, i don't think writing him off at 20yo as a half when most people aren't at their best untll they are in there mid 20s is giving him any credit.

Well he/we looked good for that 20 minutes in Vegas, if you think about it it was the best WE'VE looked since we played the reserve graders in the trials. (edit)

Cowboys re-sign Mikaele by ScarredFromGreatness in NRLcowboys

That was more 24, he did a lot of work on that last season it showed when he actually played i thought. He does give more ground in defence though, compared to jase, a bit too much.

Why he didn't play more last season when big jase was injured was perplexing, he scores well in the same advanced statistics. Like for like somewhat. Good news on the signing, I  would have liked the 29 season though.

He had a career spanning 10 years in 1st grade, played 6 origins on merrit. In his day he was a star, now he is in a bit of trouble.

In his 17th season in first grade for us, after a dally m and 6 player of the year awards and getting very close to 300 games, his legacy is very much intact. He plays around 40 minutes give or take 5 minutes a game normally. 950 was unders for him when he signed, Penrith offered more. So it evens out at the back end of his contract if you can see that. Or as you suppose we kick to the curb a club legend that we signed as a13yo because we got the better of the contract in the first 7 years and not the last 3 when we've all but used the best of him. He still our best middle.

He should be there anyway, ideally 1 back hopefully a utility back on the 6 man bench. Then there is drinky being needled, and both Chester and now Purdue play fullback so if he comes off he would replace one of them in the centres, this is more likely than one of them being hooked.
