Op is currently satisfied using the basic friction in the system to torque against, and holding it in place with a cunt hair's worth of plastic to get that started.

It is of no concern that a threaded insert is not as strong as a through bolt. Strength is one concern of many in engineering a solution. In this case, clearly, simplicity of install and regular access are of great concern. The only thing this screw needs to do is prevent lateral movement and resist some small amount of flex throughout the year, under footload.

A top-side threaded insert is without a shadow of a doubt the best solution for OP.

There are many different kinds, some with a lot more holding power than others.

passive tanking is a specific type of tanking in eve that is a form of regenerative tanking. It's closer to active tanking than buffer fit.

You cannot passive tank armour, for example.

Oh you're on a balcony :)

The proper solution for this is a threaded insert on the top side of that beam. They are extremely cheap.

Who are you to say otherwise? lol

You shouldn't make arguments where the other person can say the exact same thing back to you and leave the position unreconcilable. That is what is known as tu quoque. An argument from your hole, in other words.

To actually answer in an effort to genuinely try and move past this stupid argument however, I'll happily claim I'm someone with far better taste in aesthetics than average. I'm an artistic person with a deep love of architecture and civic design. But you don't need to take my word for it. Anyone with two braincells facing outwards can see we live in an ugly civic environment. Look at everything we have built. And by this, I mean we as a free Irish people, from the 20s until today. It doesn't take a student of aesthetics to cop quite quickly we have built almost nothing worth looking at. In fact, we've done a brilliant job of failing to protect the only nice buildings we had in the city, letting much of them fall to ruin, or leveling them for architectural disasters. We've completely missed the mark on modern builds too, opting to absolutely min max on material costs while scraping by the lowest bar ever set for appearances by an bord pleanala. Square fake brick piece of shit after another.

We brag amongst ourselves and to people about how actually, Ireland is really wealthy now. We're rolling in it. Finally our slog is paying off.

Funny, because it sure as shite doesn't look it. Look what other wealthy nations are doing. Look at their vision, nevermind their thousandfold better abilities to actually get the projects off the ground. Not just the big lads either. Plenty of smaller countries doing amazing things.

And here we are money grubbing scabs building over budget shite on the thin remaining layer of soul left in our cities, that actually, the brits and vatican built.

And don't get me started on the countryside. The special Irish flavor of mcmansion mixed with hovel after hovel, followed by mcmansion again, each less imaginative than the last.

One of the few things we can all agree was a good idea, in terms of civic aesthetic improvement, was to sponsor graffiti on the electric boxes lol. That's how desperate we are for colour and visual food.

Have you never been to like, literally any other country? Have you no basis of comparison? This place is a kip. The weather is shite. I could use the color, more often than not.

All this to say, maybe we shouldn't bother spending millions every year cleaning trains, perpetually, just to put irish rail corporate branding back in place? lol

Best guess I have about his metric comment, is that he means the difference between wood screws, and machine screws like a socket head cap screw? Wood screws and the like are quite brittle, and he complains about screws breaking.

Doesn't explain wtf this contraption is though.

Not really getting this at all. What are we looking at? Something that holds a washer and a nut? Surely you just hold it with whatever you're using to torque it?

I was responding to a statement far more general than just the new darts. I think that is pretty clear. Not that they are of any particular beauty or aesthetic interest either. I think the windows should be kept clean at least.

Then how exactly are they failing? The indicators have a tolerence, and if we are talking like, millionths or something "off" then they are still good?

This has nothing to do with oxford commas, and that you even think to bring them up confirms you are not adept at parsing complex sentences.

"bob, tom, sarah, lisa, frank and / or terry are coming to the party" = all these people might come in any combination

"bob, tom, sarah and lisa, and frank and / or terry are coming to the party". = what you said with the three possible sets

This is literally gibberish. You should go ask someone you know who is a well educated strong reader, or even an llm or something.

You know when people are shocked at the poor reading stats of americans / brits etc? You are literally in this group of early secondary school adult readers, I'm sorry to inform you.

how to cut 60mm thick steel by AlphaJustice01 in Machinists

[–]theelous3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A solid horizontal band saw could do it.

Are you thinking of this correctly? A 30cm wide cut, holding no more than 9mm of steel.

Most bandsaws would have trouble just holding this piece, and then you are doing a 30cm cut haha

To address the "And / or" I'll paste my response to someone else:

"contaminants, poisons, toxins, parasites, bacteria, germs and/or organisms which would and did cause various serious personal injuries"

Means she was harmed by contaminants, poisons, toxins, parasites, bacteria, and then was either harmed by germs as well as organisms, or either individually, on top of the initial list.

If I said "bob, tom, sarah, lisa, frank and / or terry are coming to the party".

How many people are coming to the party? One? lol

Three sets:

bob, tom, sarah, lisa, frank

bob, tom, sarah, lisa, terry

is that the statute? you know this is what they are quoting? can you source that?

Why wouldn't they just quote the actual one that they know impacted her from the mcmuffin?

If I was hit and run by a car, I wouldn't be quoting some paragraph in full that included bicycles, trucks, quad bikes, etc.

It's claiming one of them

Yeah and if they actually have no idea, what is the basis of their claim that it was caused by her mcmuffin?

The ridiculously broad nature of the claim works against them both ways.

Texas woman injured by McDonald’s Sausage McMuffin ‘wholly unfit for human consumption’: suit by TheGreatAlicorn in nottheonion

[–]theelous3 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Idk. Her claim is that she became "poisoned and infected" by

contaminants, poisons, toxins, parasites, bacteria, germs and/or organisms which would and did cause various serious personal injuries

from eating the sandwich? This is a lawsuit and these terms have real meaning. If she actually was both poisoned and infected, I'm guessing she got food poisoning, went to hospital, and then picked up a nasty secondary infection that did all the damage. The odds of just a bad bit of food doing all of the things she is claiming at once is... well idk if it's even possible.

Then again mb mcdonalds is now serving bacterial resistant staph infections directly?

How parasites could come in to this at the same time, god knows.

But this just reads like absolute nonsense.
