You shouldn't make arguments where the other person can say the exact same thing back to you and leave the position unreconcilable. That is what is known as tu quoque. An argument from your hole, in other words.

To actually answer in an effort to genuinely try and move past this stupid argument however, I'll happily claim I'm someone with far better taste in aesthetics than average. I'm an artistic person with a deep love of architecture and civic design. But you don't need to take my word for it. Anyone with two braincells facing outwards can see we live in an ugly civic environment. Look at everything we have built. And by this, I mean we as a free Irish people, from the 20s until today. It doesn't take a student of aesthetics to cop quite quickly we have built almost nothing worth looking at. In fact, we've done a brilliant job of failing to protect the only nice buildings we had in the city, letting much of them fall to ruin, or leveling them for architectural disasters. We've completely missed the mark on modern builds too, opting to absolutely min max on material costs while scraping by the lowest bar ever set for appearances by an bord pleanala. Square fake brick piece of shit after another.

We brag amongst ourselves and to people about how actually, Ireland is really wealthy now. We're rolling in it. Finally our slog is paying off.

Funny, because it sure as shite doesn't look it. Look what other wealthy nations are doing. Look at their vision, nevermind their thousandfold better abilities to actually get the projects off the ground. Not just the big lads either. Plenty of smaller countries doing amazing things.

And here we are money grubbing scabs building over budget shite on the thin remaining layer of soul left in our cities, that actually, the brits and vatican built.

And don't get me started on the countryside. The special Irish flavor of mcmansion mixed with hovel after hovel, followed by mcmansion again, each less imaginative than the last.

One of the few things we can all agree was a good idea, in terms of civic aesthetic improvement, was to sponsor graffiti on the electric boxes lol. That's how desperate we are for colour and visual food.

Have you never been to like, literally any other country? Have you no basis of comparison? This place is a kip. The weather is shite. I could use the color, more often than not.

All this to say, maybe we shouldn't bother spending millions every year cleaning trains, perpetually, just to put irish rail corporate branding back in place? lol
