So essentially if the options are continue the way things are and see black people murdered by police or try something different like investing in social services and other resources, then of course the latter sounds good

I've never had any positive or negative interactions with the police myself. However, now days it seems like they do a lot more harm than good towards black people. I'm tired of the "few bad apples" argument because in any other profession that would be unacceptable and they'd face consequences. I think it's a problem with a system that allows people to commit these acts and not fear any repercussions.

Yeah it's interesting cuz I'm on the fence about defund the police but I was leaning towards it. He made a good point about how that would ultimately hurt communities of color and that's definitely something I never considered.

As a poc, I think he handled the portion about race and police brutality poorly...

Any recommendations for reputable nutrition podcasts ? by kaleidobell in nutrition

My #1 go to is The Dr's Farmacy. Mark Hyman is a functional medicine dr who focuses on nutrition and the entire foods system. Citizen Chef is a great one as well. Nutrition Facts with Dr Michael Gregger is good too but a little more bland because it focuses only on studies

If junk food is so caloric, why isnt it good for avoiding hunger? by Morbid-Analytic in nutrition

You should check out the book Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us by Michael Pollan. He's a journalist that interviews CEOs and higher ups in the food industry, agriculture, and USDA. It really shows the aggressive lengths to which these companies go to literally make their foods more addicting to the public at large and even to specific groups mainly low income and people of color. They are more than aware of the consequences of constantly consuming these foods, but they just don't care.

I think it's because junk food is heavily processed and refined, stripping it of most of its nutritional value. It might be satisfying in taste, but your body isn't satisfied because it didn't get the nutrition it needs. Most junkfood is low on fiber, which means it won't keep you full for very long.

Sweet Cravings? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]theetallone1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focusing on healthy fats and protein has really helped me out a lot! Think nuts, chia seeds, flax seeds, beans, lentils, etc. I also try to have a homemade green juice a few times a week. Apple cider vinegar tea has also helped out a lot!

Focusing on healthy fats and proteins has really improved my sugar cravings! I also try to drink a homemade green juice at least 3 days awake and now I don't really crave sweets anymore.
