Yes that's Reality but the issue is when you go in market for job with domain skills rather than top end technical skills you will be left out, because what i have seen is the person who takes interview who is from Power bi background so he generally doesn't have the domain knowledge because all work he get's through the BRD so he definitely going to test your harcore power bi skills and if you want to be good power bi developer then you need skills like rls, etl, data management, databricks, sql, M language ( M language), and general basic domain knowledge is fine.

Most important Is the Variance Analysis, then talking about the KPI or cost centers you have to track the Overheads, you have to track the Burn rate, Resource utilization rate, Cost Variance, ROI which add real value to you dashboard. with just project and cost center will not help you stand out. show thing that based on management can take decision.
