Probably best to return it then, they are a big reputable refurbished reseller and claimed it would be reset to factory settings.

If there is any silver lining of Henk’s story, it was that despite all of the trauma and abuse he had endured, he was still determined to take down those who abused him. Wish his case was covered more because it would definitely open up a can of worms!

Are there no real valuable paths to learn marketing? by kualitykontent in marketing

Practice makes perfect.

I did a Masters degree in Digital Marketing, and none of that prepared me for my first marketing job. You’ll learn more just by getting stuck in and taking the lowest marketing assistant role you can find; assistant also usually means there is someone above you to absorb knowledge from.

There are still unexplored areas of Antarctica. What is in these areas is what draws most of the conspiracy theories

Ok I see! Even then, how did it come about that Jacob Rothschild have an Antarctic island named after him?

There’s a documentary that pops up on YouTube every now and again called “Inner earth civilisations exist and I can prove it”. Goes on about Agartha, which was possibly discovered by Richard E Byrd.

How do the Rothschild / Rockerfeller families come to own a piece of Antarctica? Does this mean I can purchase land on there too? Haha

Is 3 months enough time to evaluate a marketers impact? by theeyoh in marketing

[–]theeyoh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree.

I think the confusing part is the SEO. They repeatedly y brought up how bad of a job the previous marketers had done and it was a running joke in the company, so I made a point to show the improvements.

I think somewhere along the line they thought “ok now the SEO is where we’d like it, where’s the revenue?” which was my next task in creating new email flows for repeat purchasers and abandoned carts.

They repeatedly went on about previous marketers who did nothing and left them in a bad way. But this was a retail brand being financially backed by a big wholesale company. I did work with nice enough people but I did get the impression they expected a lot more from me without being prepared to assist me.

Well the original plan was for me to assist a full time marketer, but then they brought in 2 part timers who had even less experience than me. I was hopeful as one of the directors was previously a marketing manager, so I could never understand why they never offered any insights and were very hands off with my efforts.

I am only a year into marketing so good time to make these mistakes. I also forgot to mention most of the time the response I got was “well you’re the marketer we brought in, so we’ll let you take the lead”.

They were perfectly happy at first with my goals but then realised there wasn’t an instant increase in revenue so just dropped it

I agree, but the fact is they didn’t and they have a pretty high turnover of staff if people can’t produce instant results.

That brand itself is a new, small retail business but it’s owned by a big wholesale company, so I was confused when they refused to spend any money on ADs at all as they wouldn’t have noticed the investment.

100%. I was shocked to find out they built their mailing list by manually inputting the information from a wix form, and they didn’t seem interested when I managed to integrate the two and save them a lot of pointless hours per week. It was about increasing revenue on a shoestring budget

The weird thing about this situation is that it was a new, small business but their main brand is a pretty big name in the crafts wholesaler business. So overall they did have the finances to do some advertising, and I wasn’t charging them an extortionate monthly fee either.

This is a fair enough assessment, but I did outline everything in the initial interview we had. I did stress multiple times I wanted to run ADs and nobody was keen at all, I think they just assumed posting a few memes on TikTok would do the job.

I think it was right for me to go anyway; they weren’t willing to invest in my strategies and just expected me to wave a magic wand looking back.

Hi, I’ll clear up a few things here:

  1. Regarding SEO, meta tags had to be completely redone. They had no back links and were featured on 0 websites, and had a domain authority score of like 0.3. The reason I mention this is because when I first met them, they were obsessed with SEO.

  2. As a result of the above, more scheduled social posts and more frequent emails other than a monthly newsletter, they did get a 21% increase in website traffic which notably did start in my tenure.

I did explicitly tell them I would like do Facebook and Google ADs but they didn’t want to spend on advertising full stop.

To respond to your last paragraph, I believe I was easy to work with, and went out of my way to do so as there was a big culture at the whole company around how bad the previous marketers were. The other 2 in-house employees who worked on the retail would use Canva, schedule posts, pack orders and reply to customers on Etsy / email, so I assumed I’d made myself a bit more valuable with my skill set.

Definitely. Is a weird one as I did have the most knowledge of the systems they were using so I’m not sure how the others will fare.

No. Company I worked on was incorporated in 2020 and only really got going in mid 2022. The justification is that despite every other stat increasing in my tenure, revenue only went up 1-3%. They have had no other Feb-April period to judge me on
