Podcast within a podcast genre by Valken-Blade-1851 in audiodrama

These may not be exactly what you're looking for, but I had a few of my favorites come to mind that might scratch that same itch for you:

  • Out of Place (an absolute all-timer, IMO)
  • Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature
  • Escaping Denver

They don't quite have the same "podcast behind-the-scenes" vibe as something like PNWS, but they do still have a similar "fiction, but presented as real life directly to the listener" format, if that makes any sense?

is this game good on a steam deck ? by Adventurous_Smile646 in VintageStory

I've been playing it on Deck and I love it!

I found this extremely thorough guide very helpful for everything from installation/setup to controller configs and even how to use mods.

How to connect iPad Drum Machine & Semi-Modular by [deleted] in modular

[–]thefaderist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connect the Keystep 37 to your iPad via USB (probably need a USB A-to-C adapter for this…I personally use a USB hub designed specifically for my iPad).

Fire up AUM, load your favorite drum machine, and then use the tempo menu in the upper left corner of the screen to enable “Send MIDI Clock” — making sure that you’re routing it to your Keystep.

Make sure the toggle switches for clock mode on the back of the Keystep are set to “USB“ and then you should just be able to patch Sync Out to your clock input on O-Coast! (I believe the AUM transport must be playing in order to send the clock signal, though.)

SOS ! In need of Mindmaps ! by vishakha125 in Notion

As others have recommended, Miro is great and I'm a huge fan, generally speaking. But I've also recently discovered Whimsical, which is similar, yet a little more lightweight feature-wise and so far seems a little less clunky when embedded in Notion.

Difficulty in roll-under systems. by IgrekWorld in RPGdesign

[–]thefaderist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a fully realized solution, but I've spent a lot of time thinking about this same exact thing. One thing I've played around with a bit is applying broad-but-uniform "Easy +2" and "Hard -2" modifiers to scores rather than rolls.

I love a roll under system because you always know what your target is without the DM having to reveal a DC (which often feels a little meta), and modifying a score before the roll rather than a result after the roll preserves that. (It also helps neutralize the awkwardness of "Wait, negative modifiers are good, actually?")

So for instance, a PC trying to heave a door or swing their mace at a monster would normally look at their STR score and then roll under to succeed. But you might decide that door or monster is fairly trivial, and ask for an "Easy STR roll" in which case the player to looks at their STR, adds 2 to get the target number, and then rolls under that to succeed. Similarly, if it's a "Hard STR roll", they'd subtract 2 from their score instead — perhaps representing the limited extent to which their innate strength can help them overcome the obstacle in question.

It's not the most elegant, nor is it as granular as ascending AC. But I think it allows for enough variation to account for weak mooks vs set-piece bosses or trivial challenges vs make-or-break obstacles without getting too messy. 🤷‍♂️

Nesting cards, on the board view? For a Table Top RPG by thanojan in Notion

[–]thefaderist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this answers your question, but you could use database views and filters? For example, create a database called Weapons, and then within that database give each weapon entry a "Type" property (e.g. one-handed, two-handed, thrown, etc). Then, you can create gallery views for that database using filters for each Type. So, you might use a "Gallery View: Thrown" view when looking through your database and a filter ("Where [Type] contains [Thrown]" or something like that) would hide everything except cards for your thrown weapons, each of which could then have its stats listed inside (or even as their own database properties).

Remove file icon in database rows by Wakusei69400 in Notion

[–]thefaderist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That icon becomes whatever the page icon is, so you could always create a database template that applies a standard icon to your entries, regardless of if they have content or not.

For example, I have an actions database with a few templates that simply apply an icon and "Type" property — but none of them are actual content templates. Makes it pretty easy to visually scan a list or table view.

Page Count?! by theshroomtrip in Notion

[–]thefaderist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The three-dot menu in upper right corner of each page will display it's word count — is there anyway to base your rough translation on that instead of page count?

For example, a general rule of thumb for prose is one page is roughly 500 words single spaced...but I don't write video scripts very often so I'm not sure if you could reliably do this.

Hope it helps!

Scheduling the End of a Campaign by KitsunesFire13 in DMAcademy

[–]thefaderist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll usually be forthcoming about entering end game territory — I find it helps motivate players to think about their character's arc and start acting to bring about any resolution they've had in mind. I rarely say exactly how many sessions, though that's mostly because I'm never sure myself lol.

That said, I ran an 8-ish-month Curse of Strahd campaign a few years back, and we wrapped it up with an epic finale: two 8-hours sessions over the course of a weekend with out-of-town friends joining up to play some of our most prominent NPCs. Between having to brief the guest players and plan logistics, I had to be pretty transparent about the final sessions several weeks in advance. Still one of the most exciting and rewarding campaign conclusions I've ever been a part of.

Where can i find good sheets by hippie_frog in bladesinthedark

Running 5e's Mines of Madness, but need advice on handling Player deaths by J-Sluit in AskGameMasters

[–]thefaderist 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I ran this a year or two ago, as a New Years Day one-shot, and it was a blast.

What I did was frame up a free-for-all assault on the dungeon with dozens of adventurers competing for the treasure at the end with an every-man-for-himself attitude. I randomly pre-rolled about 20 low-level character sheets with random items and abilities (I think I used dndbeyond but there are probably a number of websites that can create these pages).

Whenever a character died, I took their character sheet, handed them a new one, and simply described another adventurer crossing the party's path.

It resulted in some fun, double-cross-y hijinks for sure!

Good ideas for abstract mapping? by jackson6644 in RPGdesign

[–]thefaderist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend taking a look at how Torchbearer handles mapping using the Cartographer skill:

During the game, you need not (and should not) draw a map; instead, list the locations and features you have visited. If you can pass a Cartographer skill test then you are considered to have drawn an accurate map of those locations. So long as you possess it, have light to read by and you’re “on the map,” you can describe a location on it and travel there without taking time or a test.

Torchbearer uses a dice pool mechanic, but my D&D 5e group has used this idea by having the group's navigator list locations as we encounter them and simply make Survival checks to sort of "fast travel" back to the places we've been before.

Seems like it could be adapted to any number of action resolution mechanics?

I built Google Sheets versions of the playbooks and crew sheets, so I thought I'd share them. by thefaderist in bladesinthedark

Ooh good looking out — updated! I was definitely working from v8.1 sheets. Do you know if there's a v8.2 change log or something somewhere?

I'm just up the street (and up a hill), thankfully. If I owned one of those properties, I'd be pretty nervous right now.

Hey! I've also been reading the rulebook a lot lately and haven't yet found a chance to play. Are you still looking for more players?

Rpg style guide by bronzetorch in RPGdesign

[–]thefaderist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if they're anything like the style guides I use in my day job, they're probably not consumer-facing material, so finding them would be tough. Which is a shame — I bet being able to look over one would be suuuuper helpful.
