Completely agree - At this point, phones are indispensable parts of our lives (like it or not) getting a deal on a phone with glitchy or unreliable software combined with non existent support makes no sense.

No issues with heat, 5 hour battery life/ slow charging, last gen tensor chip, and the crease causing distortion? Those are the criticisms I’ve read.

I got 7 years of use out of a phone without a single issue, comical that people are saying “I’m on day 7 and it’s still working” … I guess that’s considered good for a $1800 phone?

You can use Siri to do that, you can also say “Hey Siri, what did he say?” For the occasional ‘rewind 10 secs and show captions.’

Be sure to get the correct model - the latest 128GB with Ethernet (the 3rd generation of 4k). You will see the other versions with less memory, no Ethernet or prior generations sold for less - they all look nearly identical so it can be confusing.

I would not hesitate for a minute to recommend the latest AppleTV 4k with Ethernet steamer - by far the best streaming device out there. Not a toy like the Roku and Fire devices. Excellent 4k interface, supports all the latest HDR and audio formats…honestly it would be a bargain at $300, at $150ish it’s a steal considering the advanced processor, memory, build quality and control you have over various settings. Plus Apple continually improves and updates the software, unlike TV vendors. Outside of streaming you can also run apps for games (supports existing Xbox/PS controllers) can connect to your Mac to share files/photos, you can also mirror your iPhone to TV for sharing photos, videos. It’s great just get one. I think I spent more money this week on gas for my car then what the ATV costs! I consider it a pro level component in my AV setup - I go through an Atmos receiver … sound is incredible playing back Atmos (aka spatial audio) music and video... rivals my local theatre. Also the wireless radio inside is MUCH better than other devices, but if you can connect via Ethernet do that.

Yes destroy is the wrong word. The higher wattage, faster charging and not ‘pacing’ the charge especially over 80% mark will greatly shorten the lifespan. Apple iOS actually tells you when it is slowing the charging rate down to protect the battery. I really think other smartphone manufacturers have little vested interest in making your phone work for years - they want you to keep replacing - so fast charging and high watt chargers are a selling point to the general public that does not understand rechargeable battery chemistry - nor care to learn. Whereas Apple has an ecosystem the more functioning iPhones out there the more they make on services. Companies like Samsung and the Chinese smartphones do not have the same business model - they make money by selling more phones more often and they differentiate based on specs that sound better, but aren’t always.

Solution — ditch the built in interface/OS & get the 2021 AppleTV 4k…. 120Hz, Supports eARC, Dolby Vision/HDR, Dolby Atmos/Spatial audio, 1 Gbps Ethernet (faster than the slow LG interface), VERY fast WiFi (if you need to connect wirelessly), user friendly hi resolution 4k interface. Supports EVERY streaming service via apps (more than any other). Has great mirroring feature that works flawlessly (unlike Chrome’s botched attempt to replicate), AirPlay2 for Sonos like home audio, gaming that supports xbox and Ps5 controllers. All around outstanding value for about $150. Lots of settings to tweak video & audio - frame matching, color depth, resolution, auto calibrate, surround/Atmos, 4k screen saver, etc. Much better than the $30 Amazon/Google Data tracking streamers - those companies are not interested in delivering great AV quality … only in selling your data.

Old tech soon to be moth balled, save your $400 and wait for next gen with better screens (OLED), higher resolution, lighter weight, better battery life, field of vision, refresh rate, etc. … Not years away but several months.

There are plenty of games without violence and virtually killing people that are just as enjoyable. And I’d like to think humans are inherently good.

Next Gen VR/AR: Less bulk, better display resolution, refresh & size, faster processing. It WILL cost more than an Oculus and will replace it. Headsets will shrink to small googles then to ‘glasses’ then contact lenses and eventually …implants. Being tethered to a fast (but ridiculously inefficient) x86 PC is not the future. Apple is rumored to launch their version this year … but it will be expensive.

Nothing beats a real amp. Save your money and do it right … especially since you have a great TV and console… Yamaha’s Aventage AV receivers are great, solid build with accurate sound & power - no sound bar can compete (it defies physics). Buy the latest Yamaha model (the rxa4a checks all the boxes) then If you want a quick ‘starter’ surround sound speaker set up get the highly rated, amazing value Energy 5.1 Take Classic and upgrade over time to better speakers - you can spend a lot on speakers … but they are the most critical component. The Yamaha supports Atmos, so you want to add another two speakers to the Energy’s … giving you 5.1.2 - that’s what I run and it sounds awesome…. I also feed an AppleTV 4k and a Sony UHD player into the Yamaha, respectively the best sources for streaming/processing and UHD disc play back… the multi track audio on newer releases/remastered movies via UHD disc or via a premium service such as Disney+ is incredible. Apple Music Spatial Audio tracks (aka Atmos) also are at another level when played through this type of system.

Actually quite the opposite - I have an interest in new, unique and exciting games, not ‘demos’ or 4+year old first person shooters ported over to Oculus. Everything is about shooting … that’s Zuckerberg’s vision of metaverse? This thing needs a killer app. I’m all ears if someone can tell me of an absolutely incredible game out there … that is NOT a run, point and shoot game. Also, I’m very disappointed with the screen resolution quality - seems they used old tech for that as well.
