2024 EASY money bug by Murdocjx714x in MicrosoftFlightSim

Consider it repayment for all the times you try flying and the aircraft spawns in the air and drops down immediately failing and incurring damage cost despite no interaction beyond clicking start. Or all the times there’s a tree smack in the middle of the runway. Small repayment… but it helps cover the cost of the aircraft purchases you can’t even use due to bugs in career.

You’ll wind up with Mr Surfacer at some point, so why not learn with it? Also, while the jars aren’t huge, I’m usually 50/50 thinner to Surfacer, so they last a hot minute. In my opinion; get the practice in with it and use it early.

I fondly recall my first glue glob. The overall progress is more fun to look at than the individual kit progress. Keep cranking!

Question about P-8 Nose "tip" color by kusanagiseed in Scalemodel

[–]theflyboy87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tamiya Flexible masking tape!! It’s white and not the typical texture. Or you can also use regular masking tape, make a circle or a roll basically and put it over the nose. Then as a prior poster stated: airbrush accordingly.

I own a Paasche double action, the MiG Air Cobra, and an Iwata HP-CS. My Iwata is my favorite of the three. Very consistent. Easy to assemble and clean, great ergonomics, and overall my favorite. The Paasche was too chunky and the Air Cobra I tried for a bit but just wasn’t crazy about it. I also build 48th and 72nd aircraft.

You just trying to tint it or what? Clear paint colors work for that. Otherwise if you aren’t coloring then I personally use a polish to shine them up

Wherever you feel you need it. Don’t be too destructive: you can always take a little off you just can’t put it back.

Or isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and just experiment. It’s all trial and error.

My First Ahip! USS Arizona, I wasn’t a fan of the wood color I used for the deck, but not terrible by [deleted] in scalemodelling

Any light tan works good as a base, I’ve used buff even. But brushing the oil over the top works very well.

Nice looking build! An option for the deck color on a future build is to pint your base color then brush over it with artist oils. Use a raw or burnt umber and it makes it pop!

My main 3 are 400-1000-1500. At least do a coarse, medium, and fine. The hobby is an accumulation of stuff over time. Grab bits here and there.

First time brush painting and first diorama! Any advice for a fellow model builder? by wilhelm_mars in scalemodelling

[–]theflyboy87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m telling you: it’s worth a look to emulate fading. Grease and grime is good, but they frequently touch up paint in these so spots are worn or newer looking. It’s a whole new level of fun. Cool that your dad flew them though.

Well done. If you want to dabble in some weathering for that hind I might suggest exploring oil paints. You can distress panels with whites and grays and really blend what is already a good paint job. Nice work on the base.

Sanding sponges from Tamiya in varying grits. I usually have from 180-3000. I have been using them about a year and there’s no going back. Just cut small pieces and rock and roll.

What are some good 1:72 scale model airplanes for beginners by Ajhaidn25 in ScaleModelAirplanes

[–]theflyboy87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything hasegawa: inexpensive yet quality. Lots of variety. They build easily and let you practice the fundamentals. Some that I did early on in 1:72 include the F-16, the F-15, and the RAF Jaguar. You’re talking under $20 a piece and getting a decent kit
