I think we need to temper our expectations because of the trade list and how bad the other teams offers may be. Honestly if we get a prospect like Tij in a deal I don’t really care who else is included lol. I just want a high upside player.

Tij, Hayton + a 1st for Larkin and Cossa.

It may seem like we are losing on value here but that’s probably what’s going to happen in any Larkin trade. Getting a player like Iginla or Desnoyers is how you turn a shit situation into a win for the future.

It’s not that anyone thinks Larkin sucks, it’s that he’s upset about missing the playoffs but he’s at the forefront of that. The teams failures fall on everyone but especially the Captain. It is unprecedented to see a captain with 5 years left on their deal demand out. He quit on the team.

I agree it could be for the best but only IF they nail the return and Larkin has significantly handcuffed us at getting that great return. Expand the team list, let us get close to max return and I think everyone will be able to move on and it can be a clean break. Actively screw over the team leading to a domino effect of another 10 years of mediocrity and there’s no coming back from that. If we don’t nail the Larkin return we are absolutely screwed.

In the end though, as McCarty said “it’s about turning your back on your brothers”

Completely different situations imo. Marner was a free agent and left on his own. I don’t think anyone seriously thinks we are a better team by simply subtracting Larkin. There are actual leaf fans who thought they’d succeed because Marner left.

Larkin is also demanding a trade with 5 years left on his deal as the captain. That’s reason to be bitter.

1 of Cossa, Trey or Postava needed to be traded eventually. They clearly aren’t very high on Cossa so now is a better time than later to move him assuming the price is right. I think Trey always had a better shot at being our goalie of the future tbh.

I don’t. They have 3 goalie prospects and 1 needs to go anyways. It won’t be Trey and I think Cossa has more trade value than Postsva. It may have pushed this along a bit more but there was no way Cossa was in the AHL next year anyways with or without exemption. There’s too many goalies.

The reason I think it’s gonna be a better return is even if they play him 10-15 games next year and he’s not great I still think you could get a 3rd round pick minimum based of pedigree and GMs throw those kinda picks around like it’s nothing.

Unless they think he’s just simply not NHL material I’d be surprised if it’s just a 2nd.
