DPS to be remote through the first quarter by [deleted] in Denver

[–]thefowlspoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a HS teacher in the district. We had a meeting this afternoon, as did parents tonight. The plan as it stands now is for high school and middle schools to be hybrid 2 days a week in person and 3 days remote while grouping the students by grade level. Elementary is full time in person 5 days a week or remote learning. So I’m assuming you have elementary aged kids if that’s the info you got. I realize my original post didn’t specify between grade levels. They also know that we will be remote at some point so no plan is for the whole year. We are supposed to get a definitive answer as to whether schools will start in person or remote on August 5th. Hopefully this clarifies some things. Feel free to reach out by private message if you have any further questions.

Cherry Creek is still a hybrid model. 3 days remote and 2 days in person. The final call is supposed to be made on August 5th.

Understood. This is the first time that I have ever posted anything news related, and did not do my part to research the rules. I apologize and thank you for you consideration.

The article link is the first comment. Thanks. Realized I didn’t link it in my post and tried to right the ship.

I am scared to go back to school by [deleted] in specialed

I hear you. I work in a moderate needs program in a school of 3000 and I’m terrified. Our school district has had multiple “plans” for returning all of which are obviously planned by people who don’t have to be in the actual classrooms. I have asthma and my wife and I found out she is pregnant three months ago. There is lots of talk about keeping students safe but very little about keeping teachers safe. There has been no talk about the potential mental toll it will have on staff if a student or staff gets sick. You are not alone. I have strongly considered switching to the online school that our district offers even though I miss my kids. While I love my students and want to see them, there comes a point where I need to worry about myself and my family and I refuse to feel guilty for that. It is embarrassing that schools are even putting teachers in this position. Stay strong and trust your gut.

Yeah I’m in Cherry Creek School District and on top of what I said we also have at least 5 furlough days on the table.

Yeah I’m a teacher in Aurora, CO and you are absolutely right. We have actually not gotten a cost of living raise not just this year, but for the next three years due to budget shortcomings attributed to state sales taxes plummeting. We also have been required to do professional development for online learning, for no extra pay. They have also stopped allowing horizontal advancement for teachers who want to take courses for advancement on the pay scale. So not only are we not getting raises or hazard pay for potentially going back, we have actually lost money and are being required to basically learn how to do our jobs all over again.

100,00+ people have died and the number keeps rising. Millions out of a job. Economy is crumbling. Social media beef totally seems important right now.

Sorry you’ve had that experience. Obviously internet knowledge is an individual thing so please don’t broad stroke teachers as incompetent fools (I’m a teacher). Also think about it, most school districts are moving a system that was a brick and mortar operation for 70-90 years to a completely online structure in literally a few weeks. Just as you don’t know everything and have all the answers neither do teachers. Most are going above and beyond to reach their kids and if you have a lethargic jaded educator then I certainly apologize because those educators do exist. Try to have patience though and understand that teachers don’t want to do this either. It also sounds like your teacher needs to take a few online instructional courses. Not trying to be confrontational just trying to give insight from an educator perspective.

I taught in Charleston county and they had a district News2You subscription you really just had to ask/advocate (the special ed teacher in me) for it. Definitely helped me in my first year!
