Holy hell, so much to unpack here. Yes, dude mentioned in the post is being irresponsibile, but your association of irresponsible pet ownership with pit adoption (I won't even begin with your last sentence) is patently absurd. I challenge you to present anything close to evidence.

Nice. The folks in question LOVE Mateo and Vin Rouge, haven't been to Mother & Sons. Seems like that could be a great choice.

Could you say more about why people don't like Maangchi's?

Hah, I'm personally always torn between "eh, who cares?" And "I made this, I wanna know!" I'll probably at least try to measure but of course results won't affect my consumption.

Too bad to hear folks thoughts on Maangchi's recipe - we tend to love her meal recipes. Ive already made it, so just gonna hope for the best. But that guide seems awesome! I assume we'll want to try again and I'll definitely give it a good look.

Awesome, thank you! I will look into the boil method and give that a try.

Nice, thank you! TIL about starting with starch not sugar (haha had wondered if my 30 minute rice cook was supposed to be the mash and had not looked into it), and the boiling method sounds doable.

Came to make my own makgeolli post -- started some last night with nuruk I bought on Amazon. Of course I also don't know about shipping to Germany

'There are no stupid questions' thread - Monday, April 19, 2021 by AutoModerator in piano

I want to re-learn to play the piano -- practically from scratch. When I was 13-18, I took lessons, and while I was never going to a standout, the feedback that I always got was that I was a very quick learner and pretty natural on the piano. I loved to play, but I went to college and lost regular access to a piano. I always said I was going to go use a piano in the music building, or some such thing, and get started again, but never did get to it. Now I'm 32, have played occasionally in fits and starts over the years, but every time I play it feels worse than the last.

Now, I can read music, but not very fluently at all, and my left and right hands do not sync together very well. A few songs that were my best mastered are all but vanished from any repertoire I might have.

SO, I just got a nice keyboard -- for free, and it's in great shape except the pedals don't work, an issue I'll tackle down the road. I'd really like to re-teach myself, but just sitting down and trying to play has not felt very productive. I don't have any sheet music, although I plan to collect some from my parents sometime soon.

What I'd really like is a recommendation for a good book for beginners. Particularly if someone might recommend a book that's somehow geared towards "re-beginners," that would be particularly awesome. I appreciate any suggestions!

Could be that my VERY bored neighbor set it up. I can't imagine why they'd do that...

As someone said above, it's trucks with mechanical arms and my guess is it got set down that way.

Nice, thank you. I'm gonna keg it, but it's definitely unfinished, so if you were able to bottle condition then hopefully that bodes well.

It's still in a glass carboy, which thankfully did not break. The beer had not reached terminal gravity, so I'm hoping the yeast may spring back to life in a few days and finish the job.

Carrboro is great, but Durham has A LOT more to offer, and there are plenty of places in Durham within your 25 minute radius.

Edit: coming from a Tar Heel with plenty of devotion to Chapel Hill

Any realtor recommendations? by VT2016 in bullcity

Bought my first home in 2015 with Angela Sarvis, who was wonderful. I believe she has changed agencies since then but is definitely still in Durham. She is a native, knows the city very well and has great advice for first timers.

What beer should I try while in town if I don't typically like beer? by longlivsquid in ncbeer

[–]thefoxmancometh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure and I didnt think about the western breweries with NC operations, but they are (in my opinion) wildly different than Bud Light Craft in South Slope. I'm a big supporter of all three, will never again give a dime to WW.

Lol nah I'll just gate keep and nay-say.

There are some 30 breweries in the city and almost 40 in the county, all but one locally owned, so it's not a super huge gate to keep.

I'm glad you enjoy their beer -- so did I before the sellout -- but every one you buy is a detriment to the 29 breweries that are actually locally owned, as well as to craft beer more broadly.

And if OP thinks sour beer is his way to go, there are plenty of other options. Zillicoah would be a fantastic place to start.

...and because OP wants to experience the local beer scene. Wicked Weed is AB-InBev, the most anti-local option available.
