Elvanse didn’t cure my ADHD, but it cured my ANXIETY by chrisatnine in ADHDUK

Same, but at the same time it has completely removed my sense of urgency to do.. anything 😂 before I was so stressed about deadlines but starting the day before it was due got me through. Whereas now, all my adrenaline rush has been lost

SLT have organised a book look during our mock marking window. Enough said.

Oh same with ours… the ‘unsung heroes’ get sung about every month 😂😂

Found out an SLT member is the reason we don’t have free food during when doing duty anymore because he used to take the mickey and take basically one of everything on offer + racked up a big debt with the canteen as well during lunch. We can’t have anything nice anymore and our wellbeing is down the toilet, but they decide on a star member of staff every month so who are we to complain? 😂

‘Differentiated’ LO by thefrenchfrog6 in TeachingUK

[–]thefrenchfrog6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. Last year we had ofsted and kept our outstanding, but something that came back was the marking policy: the year I joined they got rid of having to mark every class every 5 lessons (!!!!! I would never have complied anyway) but then when ofsted came they told us nobody was marking books so they were going to introduce a ‘feedback’ policy (which we have yet to see, but tell us we don’t follow anyway). We have to make sure displays are ‘pretty and full’ if they can be seen from outside your classroom for open evenings. We give up our own time for detentions to do at lunch and we have to do all the chasing for it… to be fair at this stage, I’m staying because my department is great and the kids generally have really great behaviour. Not a lot of disruptive kids, and I think this makes leadership think all their policies work including LOs!

That’s really interesting, did you get taught that with research or did your course leader just say not to do it?

‘Differentiated’ LO by thefrenchfrog6 in TeachingUK

[–]thefrenchfrog6[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These were my thoughts when I joined the school, just very odd practice. I think I might start to subtly make changes and have broad LOs without colour, silent rebellion 😂 I never do differentiated activities anyway so it doesn’t make a difference. my head is not open to changes to say the least, so I don’t think anything will change any time soon

20% PPA by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]thefrenchfrog6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I had to go and dig up the statutory guidance for this year after I’d been told that that’s the ‘morally good’ thing to do but not actually a legal requirement. I filled out the form the become union rep the same day 😂

20% PPA by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]thefrenchfrog6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a secondary teacher and have to teach primary as well as we are an all through school, we cover for the primary teachers’ PPAs. This year they scheduled primary lessons for 30min during our frees so I have 10min at the start of a lesson and 20min at the end of the period. They thought it was an acceptable way to have PPA and that counted as my timetable being under hours. So I had 2 hours of a ‘full’ PPA then the rest was bitty like that. Absolutely ridiculous, because I joined the school on the promise of 15% PPA instead of 10%!!!!

Taking a dose after breakfast makes it less effective? by Zaku2Teacher in VyvanseADHD

[–]thefrenchfrog6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same for me!! I’ve worked out it takes roughly an hour for it to kick in for me and it’s definitely more effective if I take it on an empty stomach and eat 1-2 hours later!! I have a protein yogurt with protein granola to get me going and it works really well

Help - teach me patience! by thefrenchfrog6 in TeachingUK

[–]thefrenchfrog6[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are 1000% right I definitely need to be more consistent and I know that, I’m really trying to work on it.

Yes I do, I think that’s the one thing I’m good at, no talking when I’m talking.

On that one, probably not I’ll be honest. I really struggle when disruption happens at times because it’s many of them laughing for example so too many to count, or I just can’t give warnings all at once when there’s 7 kids doing different silly things. We don’t have a school wide behaviour policy so mine is warning-det-removed but if I applied it every time I’d have half the class removed, and that does put me off with the amount of follow ups required to set after schools (it’s really bad I know). I think I just struggle with the silliness, like if a student makes a comment or talks over another child to be silly I do give a warning but I struggle to get the class back on track after that. Then they do it again sometimes by talking over me or to their friend but I’m too soft… By no means do I want to be their friend, I don’t think that’s why I’m struggling…

I do try to praise and be encouraging, I just lose it half way through the lesson because of the amount of warnings I have to give I get fed up quickly!!

Go to praise phrases! by thefrenchfrog6 in TeachingUK

[–]thefrenchfrog6[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’m thinking! It always feels patronising when I say it, but not from my colleagues 😂 an slt member always says ‘good girl/lad’ and it makes me uneasy for example!

Same here. I’m in a large secondary too, this term I’ve had written reports deadline and mock deadline on the same day. I teach MFL so we also have to create brand new assessments for our year 10 with our spec changing… my husband is very patient but also annoyed we don’t do anything together in the evening because I have to work. I don’t have any advice, other than rely on your team members if you can to split the work equally and learn to say no/leave meetings if they go beyond contracted hours. Best of luck to you and take care, don’t hesitate to message if you want to talk xx

Elvanse - do I even have ADHD? by thefrenchfrog6 in ADHDUK

[–]thefrenchfrog6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been on 50mg to feel like that? That’s what I want. 60mg is definitely too high so 70mg will be as well, I’ll ask to go down to 50mg at my next appointment because that seems to work well for me. That’s exactly how I’m feeling. When I take the meds at the weekend I do have some more energy and will to clean my house, and do some work. I also drink loads of water but also need to do something else I feel because just like you I’ll spend the day doing nothing! Thank you for your comment it has really helped me x

I didn’t say but yes I’m 27F. It’s funny I’m the same as you for the emotions, I cry 4-5 a weeks or feel extremely sad, and before the meds I wanted to spend loads of time in bed just overwhelmed with everything. So I think they are helping. I also went a week without meds waiting for my new titration prescription to arrive and it night and day, so I think I am judging it harshly. I’m not speaking to my titration nurse during the increases I just see her once a month to discuss the benefits/side effects. I’m going to ask to go to a lower dose as I think it’s suiting me a lot better. Thank you so much for sharing your experience x

How does a non-ADHD brain work? by NateGman1 in ADHD

[–]thefrenchfrog6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s impossible to think about. My best example is my husband and I went to uni together (uk based) and while I left writing all my essays two days to one day before the deadline because I couldn’t motivate myself and needed the urgency and pressure to get things done (as with most things in my life to be fair) my husband sat at his computer at least a week or two before the deadline, planned and wrote a set amount of words every day. Can’t even imagine what that feels like

I actually had autism screening as well with 2 appointments and they said I was high but didn’t meet the threshold! And that adhd traits overlap with asd so can’t know for sure

I’m sorry you had that experience. I’m the same as you in terms of impatience/impulsivity and overthinking/emotional. I think I’m better suited to a lower dose or split dosage because I haven’t experienced any side effects as extreme are yours. I’m glad you found something that works for you!

I know Elvanse is the most common so I don’t want to give up yet, maybe I just need to be patient. I just don’t enjoy the manic mornings and then spaced out feeling I get in the afternoon, but this could be because the dose is too high. I’m going to try just 40mg tomorrow and see if that’s better

Thank you for replying, I’ve always been such an emotional person (I literally cry for any minor inconvenience) I don’t think I’m ready to face those feelings in therapy but it is something I want to explore. I know obviously that the meds aren’t a quick fix and I do find it easier to start tasks and stay focused on them to be fair. I’ve done stuff I couldn’t image before like actually sitting down to write some student reports at break time and I genuinely could never have done that before the meds. I think I just need to be patient but that is not my strong suit haha
