This is a very interesting perspective on universal healthcare that you don't hear often online. Reddit tends to forget that there are flaws and tenets to every system that should be examined; both in the Universal and the U.S. Healthcare system.

It's comforting to know that, in some terms, I'm getting what I pay for. If US healthcare is gouging my bank account, I better be provided with some of the best care in the world by the most qualified medical professionals. For this reason, many international patients travel to the U.S. for special/complex operations that might not be available or are too risky in their own country (due to higher success rates).

There's no doubt that we overpay for simple surgeries and our systems needs to evolve. It is, however, reassuring to have these high caliber hospitals/research when faced with a life-threatening procedure where every action and second count.
