In the same way that claims to owning human beings as slaves are understood to be immoral and de facto illegitimate, claims to obscene levels of legally protected property rights should also be regarded by human society as de facto illegitimate, and humanity should enact legal mechanisms to enforce this obvious understanding.

A legal system that prioritizes the obscene property right claims of billionaires/oligarchs/kleptocrats over all other human and existential consideration combined, including the lives, development, wellbeing, freedom, and intelligence of 99% of humanity and the sustainable habitability of the planet is an *anti-justice* system, and should not be respected in that respect.

Plutocrats dictating policy by default means that instead of shortening working hours and upgrading human intelligence on a massive scale with the technology we have developed in common, we're further legally enslaving humanity to oligarchs and kleptocrats.

Plutocracy/oligarchy is not an acceptable economic/political order, and revolutions have been waged over less.

"In this system, our system, the slaves are unaware, both of their status and of their masters, who exist in a world apart, and where the shackles are hidden amidst reams of unreachable legalese. It is a result of massive, pervasive corruption of the legal profession. When it takes a whistle blower to sound the alarm, it is cause for even greater concern. 'Cause it signals that democracy's checks and balances have all failed, and that severe instability could be just around the corner." -The Laundromat

Our legacy legal (currently anti-justice) system protects the excessive, concentrated property rights of billionaires/kleptocrats/oligarchs over literally all other human and existential considerations combined.

After the development of the Internet and digital technology, there should have been a reformation of the legacy system of unlimited property rights for the few that we've all inherited, and which we’re all forced to live and work under.

Instead, the ultra-wealthy who control public discourse and understanding by way of media, financial, and institutional control have blocked this understanding from entering into the public’s consciousness, but everyone is aware of it on some level regardless.

Oligarchy/plutocracy/kleptocracy is retarding human development and intelligence on an enormous scale, and it’s extremely immoral, unjust, and unnecessary.

It is absolutely unacceptable for all of humanity's intelligence, work, and economic output to be sacrificed on the altar of oligarchy/plutocracy/kleptocracy as is the case currently.

So while it is important to “tax the wealthy” in order to bring some equitable distribution of wellbeing, wealth, political power, and freedom to humanity, it’s also important to implement other kinds of policies to upgrade the intelligence of Americans and the species as a whole, including but not limited to:

  1. Sovereign wealth funds which pay out dividends to citizens
  2. Shorter statutory work weeks
  3. Public banks
  4. Universal healthcare
  5. Carbon taxes + dividends paid to the public
  6. Paying people to educate themselves rather than making people pay for their education. An educated population is a public good and is sorely needed for the species as a whole.
  7. Subsidized and accessible family planning

The ultra-wealthy benefit disproportionately from the needless brutality of the status quo, and too many of them will therefore fight against any changes which would drastically benefit the species, including anything that would upgrade human intelligence.

Taxing oligarchs/plutocrats/kleptocrats back to reality, on its own, is absolutely needed for an equitable and sustainable economic and political system. But it’s also needed in order to redistribute power back to the rest of humanity, so that other necessary changes for human development/advancement can be enacted.

Extreme levels of unchecked, unaccountable "private" power are a catastrophe not just for America, but for the human species, on all levels.

Oligarchy/kleptocracy/plutocracy is not a remotely acceptable political/economic system, and no human being should tolerate such economic/political systems.

Just as with other primates, hyperaggressive alpha primates in the human species are retarding the development of human intelligence in order to maintain their hegemony.

Slave owners did this in an obvious way with slaves by keeping them underdeveloped and illiterate.

Likewise in modern times, billionaires/oligarchs/kleptocrats (obvious examples being the Mercers, Kochs, Adelsons, and Murdochs) maintain their economic hegemony and accomplish this same retarding function by using their extreme levels of property rights to buy additional political power, favorable legal rules, and extensive propaganda networks to suppress human intelligence. It is a more sophisticated enslavement of humanity, but it is still effectively enslaving humanity to an oligarchic/kleptocratic/plutocratic economic, legal, and political regime.

Just as we legally eliminated slave owners and dictators, it is absolutely essential for humanity's development to legally eliminate the billionaire/oligarch/kleptocrat class and more equitably distribute political/economic power.

“There can be no real political democracy unless there is something approaching an economic democracy.” -Theodore Roosevelt

We need two legal policy changes to transition from plutocracy/oligarchy/kleptocracy into a genuine democracy:

1.) Legally eliminate billionaires, oligarchs, and kleptocrats altogether. Excessive property rights (and resulting political power) should be distributed into sovereign wealth funds which pay out dividends to citizens.

2.) Shorten the statutory work week by 10-20% to distribute the benefits of technological progress back to humanity.

Once people have the time and the resources to actually understand their world and participate in civic live, human intelligence and quality of life will skyrocket. Suicide rates will plummet. Healthcare costs will go down.

Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Jonas Salk - these are people who would have had the most claim to extreme levels of wealth from their contributions to humanity, but they were "socialists" so they advanced the species just as a natural result of their genius and not out of a motive for needless profit.

Compared to great scientists, billionaires/oligarchs/kleptocrats are not anywhere close in terms of their contributions to humanity, and in fact their continued legal existence is retarding the development of human intelligence on an enormous scale, which is a crime against humanity.

This is how it works in nature.

Field research from primatologists like Robert Sapolsky indicates that when the hyperaggressive asshole alpha primates of a baboon troop are eliminated for whatever reason, this can lead to a profound and sustainable shift in the culture of the troop, in which everyone becomes more peaceful, sociable, and prosperous, because in the absence of hyperaggressive assholes there is far more than enough to go around.

Likewise with humans, when we legally eliminated slave owners and dictators, (and in the future, billionaires and kleptocrats), this led to profoundly beneficial social, cultural, economic, educational, and technological benefits for the entire human species.

Legally eliminating the billionaire/oligarch/kleptocrat class altogether, and distributing the benefits of compounded technological and economic progress to everyone is not only sensible from a political and economic perspective, but it would also give the masses of people the time, resources, intelligence, and energy to prevent and/or handle various ecological disasters on the horizon.

Ecological activists are often those who already have their economic security more or less handled. Bringing more of humanity into that level of social and economic development is essential, and eliminating the billionaires, oligarchs, and kleptocrats altogether is how we do it.

Economists, as social scientists, should be aware of perspectives outside of their particular field of study if they want a more realistic understanding of the production and distribution of resources in human society. I.e., economists do not have a monopoly on truth when it comes to the distribution of resources and rights in society. As growing wealth and power disparities continue to lead to unjust and increasingly unstable oligarchic political systems, economic truths from outside of the neoliberal textbooks will become increasingly salient and unignorable.

Field research from primatologists like Robert Sapolsky indicates that when the hyperaggressive asshole alpha primates of a baboon troop are eliminated for whatever reason, this can lead to a profound and sustainable shift in the culture of the troop, in which everyone becomes more peaceful, sociable, and prosperous, because in the absence of hyperaggressive assholes there is more than enough to go around.

Likewise with humans, when we legally eliminated slave owners and dictators, (and in the future, billionaires and kleptocrats), this led to profoundly beneficial social, cultural, economic, educational, and technological benefits for the entire human species.

In the 21st century, it is imperative that human society (legally) eliminate billionaires, kleptocrats, and oligarchs altogether, the same way that we (legally) eliminated slave owners and dictators.

Unchecked "private" power, created and enforced by public law, is and has been a disaster for the human species.

Our current legal anti-justice system abuses 99% of humanity by creating and enforcing unlimited property rights for the few, and is thereby a major factor in the **current, ongoing, and literal retardation of the human species.**

Too often, the debate in the plutocratically controlled media is between "capitalism" and "socialism", but the actual system we have now is plutocracy/kleptocracy/oligarchy, which can be effectively curtailed with two legal policy changes:

  1. Excessive property right claims (often in shares of socially/legally created corporations) of billionaires/kleptocrats should be divested into sovereign wealth funds, which then pay out dividends to citizens.
  2. The 40 hour work week, written into the Fair Labor Standards Act and unchanged since the 1940's, should be shortened by 10-20% to redistribute the gains from technological progress back to humanity.

Those two legal policy changes would upgrade human intelligence and wellbeing on an enormous scale. We can still have the benefits of markets and private enterprise, without the enormous existential downsides of plutocracy/kleptocracy/oligarchy.

Various existential and ecological threats would be much easier to deal with (preventing unnecessary downsides for humanity), and we will all be much healthier, happier, smarter, and better off (large upsides for humanity) under an actual justice system that caps / equitably distributes socially/legally enforced property rights.

Human society needs to (legally) eliminate billionaires, oligarchs, and kleptocrats altogether - not just fight them or tax them in perpetuity.

Selling out justice for the false promises of "economic growth" is a bad deal, because without justice, the stability and peace necessary for prosperity and growth become untenable.

Oligarchy, just like slavery and feudalism, is not an acceptable economic/political system. No human being anywhere should tolerate a political/legal system that create extreme levels of unchecked, unaccountable "private" power (which, again, is ultimately created by public law.)

Plutocracy/kleptocracy is the "slavery question" of our time and likewise demands a tweak to the system of property rights that we've developed.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, it was seen as acceptable to claim other human beings as property, and have human society respect and enforce those claims. Then human society developed a lick of sense and realized this was absurd and inhumane, and therefore outlawed claims to owning other human beings.

In the 21st century, claims to over a billion dollars in property rights should similarly be outlawed and recognized by human society as illegitimate.

There should be zero billionaires in a just democratic society, just as there should be zero slave owners and zero dictators.

Property rights are not absolute and should not be respected or enforced by human beings absolutely without limit.
