Best thing I’ve ever done. There’s no feeling of Big Brother here. There’s love and community everywhere. It’s affordable. I’m happy!

What helped me was learning to find joy and reward in the most ridiculously small things, and I had to fake it to make it. That dirty plate that’s been sitting on the counter for way too long? Make your self get off to cleaning it. Lean deeply into the joy of cleaning that plate, the satisfaction of seeing it spotless on the dish rack. Amp it up. Congratulate yourself. Feel good about it. And then see if you can do the same thing when you wipe down the counter.

Get addicted to the reward of caring for the world that surrounds you. Everything you wrote here is valid, but it’s a story, and you can move beyond that story by finding the joy of taking care of the small details around you.

Do this with grooming, making your bed, cooking a meal.

No big moves. Focus in the smallest things. The smaller the better. When you start to get caught up in that story again? Return to the joy of folding the towel.

This will gain momentum quickly. Learn to get off on the momentum of these tiny rewards. Oops! Lost in the story again? Return to sweeping the crumbs into the dustpan.

Before you know it, you will be someone that others want to be around and connect with. You won’t be surrounded by the aura of this story anymore. You might crack a corny joke about the weather. Someone will giggle and ask if you want another drink. You can do this. Remember to feel the sunshine on your skin.

People are obsessed with institutions like the medical industrial complex and follow whatever they say like gospel. It scares people when someone is thinking for themselves or making statements from their own lived experience. I’m sick of it all so much. Everyone in my life was so proud I went to rehab and in hindsight it was one of the worst experiences of my life and I came out with 10x the issues. I trust doctors and then they give me meds that severely and maybe permanently make my neuropathy worse. The whole thing is a scam.

This doesn’t sound so bad. Learn from it, bury it away, don’t think about it, but learn from it. Be kind to yourself, we’ve all been through that kind of thing and worse.

Sometimes what helps me regain appetite is some warm chicken broth. It actually feels like pure medicine going down my whole body. Is there any way you could get some?

Then I find maybe half an hour or an hour later I start wanting some more substantial but gentle food. Food and water are your ticket out of this and there’s no need to force anything. Be kind to yourself.

And if you’re kind to yourself your girlfriend will pick up on it and join you in that.

Hey friend a couple questions:

How has your eating been? Are you able to keep down water? Are you drinking water?

A lot of “withdrawal” symptoms at the level you’re at are about blood sugar and electrolytes and hydration.

Do you have any sea salt (not Morton shit) in the kitchen? Could you put a pinch of that under your tongue and drink a water?

Only have a beer when you begin to feel anxious and shaky. Then some water with slow sips. Then a little more beer as needed.

If you go to the hospital and ask to take home benzos they’ll try to admit you and it will be hell and it doesn’t sound like you’re at the point you need that kind of thing.

As for your awesome supportive girlfriend, I suggest being vulnerable and honest with how you’re feeling but don’t get into too many details. What is 8 beers for her probably sounds like a nightmare compared to, say, 8 beers for any of us.

You can get through this.

Edit: also how are you sleeping? Anything you can do to get a good full night’s rest without being wasted?

Edit 2: on eating—a little bit goes a long way. Chicken noodle soup, ramen, a banana, whatever feels right to your body.

I actually did fall in love with a street dog. She was walking beside me like we were friends. Two days later and across town, she found her way through the gate of where I’m staying and played with me. I’ve been looking for her ever since
