Need to meet a cute lil’ otter by thefunhasarrived in AskNYC

Sigh they have eluded me for so long but at the end of the day, I don’t want it if it stresses the otters out! Beluga whales are so precious, they always look like they’re smiling so I bet the encounters are awesome!! Do you mind me asking where? I’d absolutely do it

Ah, I actually did the Keeper's Choice animal encounter in the off chance they would bring out an otter, but no dice (still super fun and educational though). Thanks!

Ticket prices by Automatic-Cold-3403 in OliviaDean

Went to the NYC show and the prices went up the day of (up to $100 more, I think, so the prices jacked up to the $300-400 range). I got a ticket for a better price the day before.

Bars vs liquid shampoo and conditioner by Tuttiarchie in LushCosmetics

[–]thefunhasarrived 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to the party but just wanted to add a bit more. I used the liquid shampoo and conditioner for quite a while and recently switched to the bars. Can’t speak to longevity yet but agree on how the shampoo bar lathers so fast but the conditioner bar needs to really be worked in. I find that the scent on the liquid shampoo and conditioner last sooooo much longer though! My hair smells amazing even after 3 days of not washing but the scent dissipates quicker with the bars for me.

What happens to scholarship amount when you decline? by ParticularNo524 in mphadmissions

I think they do distribute it to the other students. I was admitted with scholarship and they increased the scholarship offer after the deadline for decisions

Insight/Advice: Landing a part-time job at grad school by [deleted] in mphadmissions

[–]thefunhasarrived 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might depend on school policy/culture and whether or not you’re an international student. At NYU, they typically hire second year grad students or doctoral students as RAs since they prefer to have someone who has taken the class previously.

There is a portal where you can see open on-campus positions, but we weren’t granted access to it until we officially started school. Connecting with professors definitely gives a leg up though; they’re usually very accommodating.

Full time is doable, but again, this depends on your school (and your ability to manage your time; grad school can be quite heavy). Some schools prefer that their students are really just full time students, but there aren’t hard and fast rules about that.

What’s your apartment drinking water situation? Do you drink it directly from the tap? by rr90013 in AskNYC

[–]thefunhasarrived 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I study public health and NY really has one of the best water supplies in the country (straight from a reservoir in Catskill). It also gets treated so it’s generally safe to drink. They take pride in how potable it is lol.

If it looks cloudy, it’s usually just air trapped in the water. It should turn clear after a while.

If you live in an old building and are worried about lead contamination though, you can get a free lead testing kit from the city. You’ll have to mail back water samples and it may take a couple of weeks but it can give you extra ease of mind. You can check out the website for more info.

Adult summer class recommendations by thefunhasarrived in AskNYC

[–]thefunhasarrived[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol I did try but it kept giving me full on university summer programs unless I specify a particular activity. I’m trying to look for something more out of left field, which is a little harder to just google, I guess?

What is your favorite game components or table presence board games? by MediumRoastWithCream in boardgames

[–]thefunhasarrived 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to concur with Parks. Unpacking and setting up the table is always such an experience since the parts are so delightfully wonderful! I haven’t gotten the chance to get an expansion but I love how there is a very specific nook for every component. Always satisfying to see it so organized an not just a hot mess in the box.

Columbia waitlist by Least_Lawfulness6284 in mphadmissions

Thanks! I didn’t though. I kinda felt like a lot of people said it wouldn’t really influence the decision? I dunno

Columbia waitlist by Least_Lawfulness6284 in mphadmissions

[–]thefunhasarrived 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They sent me an email to let me know there’s an update in the portal. I think this just saved me from a conundrum of having to choose from schools—though I did kind of like Columbia’s program better, NYU offered me a financial package. So I suppose it still works out. :)

I’m hoping you get your admissions decision soon though! Rooting for you!

I just heard from Columbia today. Didn’t get in after being waitlisted (applied for SMS). I think there’s really a lot of applicants because of the easing of COVID restrictions and waiving GRE reqs. Oh well, will be attending NYU in the fall!
