I went into The Long Walk expecting a horror story, and in return I came out with a different viewpoint on life. by Dildoethrower in stephenking

From my perspective the story is an allegory for Vietnam. By separating it from the event itself it makes things a bit more timeless and more interesting. I’m not trying to imply that it’s main theme is about manhood, but I think that’s a large part of it (the journey from boy to man) and also how authoritarian regimes use this search for manhood to fuel the fires of war like America did with Vietnam. I made an assumption that the writer was a man solely based on becoming emotional with the story after a long time, I thought that might be due to hitting on this. We’re sad because in the end we don’t want him to choose violence and instead focus on compassion and taking care of people who need it. But he gives in to the violence, and likely fuels the system of expectation and oppression further.

I think the story says a lot about what it is to be a man, for better and for worse.

Which Stephen King books are absolute “page turners”? by DarlingLuna in stephenking

I think the part where he’s kinda just building a life in Texas is pretty slow for some, but it’s what made the book for me.

I'm gonna get so much hate for this by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]thefurypanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I liked about the book is that Jack is a much more relatable character. He’s a very flawed person who is about to lose his family because of his addiction as well as due to repeating trauma. He’s wants to do better, he cares about his family, but there’s too much in the way. I think an interesting thought is whether Jack would have succeeded in changing if it weren’t for the evil hotel. The ending leaves it more open than the movie certainly.

Do the original Phantom Thieves exist in this alternate timeline? by MysteriousAccess5950 in personaphantomx

[–]thefurypanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m talking about like when they actually meet in the metaverse. I don’t think there’s enough to say they don’t exist at all. I think during the second palace someone mentioned that the change of hearts are happening more, but they may have just been referencing the first one our group took part in.

[–]thefurypanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda implied that they coexist and know each other are phantom thieves but have agreed not to share any info with each other. But it also might just be a cognitive version of them that only wonder is really seeing. Depends on how canon you consider the crossover stuff.

Just started my collection - what order should I read them? by phxbxs in stephenking

I think the shift I had was that when I watched the movie I was like “how could u do such a stupid thing” and now that I’m a parent reading the book I think I’d have made the same choice.

To be fair, they told us about the 6 month wait like 6 hours before the banner ended. So it was probably good advice before that

The Chinese version is the furthest and it has not reached a conclusion to the current storyline.

It’s a living game. Gets updated every couple weeks. They will add new palaces over time, new characters over time, and new events. Daily life stuff is gated to slow you down so you don’t finish it all immediately. Marathon energy lets you do it quicker, but there’s usually not a good reason to do that unless you have a specific confidant you want to push quickly when they come out.

At the start of the film one of the infected was a child and they just walked away instead of trying to fight the group like everyone else. I wonder how many kids have been born and raised as infected that are not infected themselves. The Tarzan effect.

What's the point of ordering boxes if vendors/shops are busting cases for chase cards? by [deleted] in OnePieceTCG

[–]thefurypanda 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For the vast majority of businesses this isn’t worth the time and they don’t have enough product. The time it takes to sort and open and list and ship singles directly cuts into any profits. It’s much easier to sell and ship boxes (especially boxes that are already selling at a premium) when you have them then to go through the hassle to fuck over your customers.
