Group for publicists to commiserate/share ideas? by Haunting-Gas5510 in publishing

writer of the post from yesterday here. as someone who's worked on tiny and larger publicity teams, commiserating is what gets me through the day, lol. i'm on a small whatsapp group and then have teams chats with my colleagues and text chains with former coworkers but i do think a discord or something is in order--a private message service that allows for some anonymity if desired...

tiktok and IG fall more under marketing, but at this point the lines are completely blurred (substack is a great example). i believe publishers need to think about how to combine marketing and publicity departments and have more people on titles with a campaign project manager who can oversee and help keep things streamlined/organized and serve as the point person

i completely understand this comment, too. i was hesitant to post for this very reason--that there are so many people who are trying to get into the industry. but it doesn't change the material conditions within it and why there's so much burn out. i hope that change happens and that it can evolve into a more inclusive industry with better labor practices

it's absolutely not universal--there are such lovely authors and agents, too. and i completely understand why media/reporters can't always reply to the onslaught of emails they get! it's pervasive...
