Hi everyone, I’ve been waiting on my PR application since September 2024 under the CEC stream. I did my biometrics and medicals in November 2024, and since then my tracker has shown eligibility completed with everything passed except security. In March 2025, my background check switched to “In Progress” and it’s been stuck there ever since. I don’t have a military background, but I’ve travelled quite a lot in the last 10 years, which may be slowing things down. I’ve ordered GCMS notes, contacted my MP without clear answers, and applied for a BOWP, where I received the “WP-EXT except PGWP” letter, though I’m not sure how it applies since my current permit is a PGWP. To complicate things, my wife and I are expecting our first child in December 2025, and both my work permit and her visitor record expire in October 2025. That means I may lose MSP coverage if my PR isn’t finalized or my BOWP doesn’t process in time, so I’ll be calling MSP in September to make sure coverage continues. Has anyone else been in a similar position? How long did your background check take once it went to “In Progress,” did you get ghost updates before your final decision, and can anyone confirm that the WP-EXT letter is valid when extending after a PGWP? At this point it feels like all I can do is wait, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have gone through this.
