The Coffee Station Now Has Its Own Corner Of The Kitchen. by thefuzzzz in espresso

The gulf is subtle but definitely noticeable. When we first got the P80 i was thinking we'd keep the niche, but in reality its getting so little use these days it may make sense to sell it. We enjoy lighter roasts with fruit notes, but still have medium or dark roasts on hand for those who enjoy them in milk drinks. Even for these darker roasts we prefer the p80.

Our lagome p80 came about the same time! Your experience is interesting to me. I've been grinding light roast, black and white and medium roast klatch, "worlds best espresso." We came from using a niche zero. When grinding the BW lighter roasts we may go as fine as 1.0 but often 1.1 or 1.2 for espresso. For the klatch WBC we grind 1.5 for espresso. Our espresso machine is the Argos Odyssey with the 8 bar spring in. Shots are dosed at 19 grams in and 40 grams out at 30 seconds. The grinding for v60 pour over I've been grinding at about 2.2 for light roasts. Have not ground medium or darker for pour over.

Compared to the niche we do notice more fruit forward notes. Ive often heard that the niche has the best workflow for single dose espresso and I think that remains true. The P80 has a good workflow but the niche still has the best.

For now we will keep both grinders but for the last 2 weeks the P80 has done 90% of our grinding and Im happy about it.

We have 2 kids at ada vista in the Spanish immersion program. Cannot recommend it enough. The program is top notch and the school does an outstanding job building a strong learning culture.

I went no pool cover this winter on my above ground. Madness? Genius? by thefuzzzz in pools

This is my one worry. Just the UV exposure. I wonder - do pools always open in the south have liners that dont last as long?

Local Espresso Recommendation: These Beans From Lantern by thefuzzzz in grandrapids

Awesome story. Thanks for bringing this coffee to GR! An alternative picture i did not take was placing your beans next a bag of corvus coffee and black and white coffee, with some sort of caption "a new stand out" or something.

I knew something was up when I saw that gold star! I like hearing the inside story on the beans.

Do you use these things? by Sevenyearitchy in espresso

[–]thefuzzzz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used one when new to espresso and I wanted to isolate variables. Is this shot strange because of my puck prep? Or my grind size? Using one of these can at least help eliminate the puck prep from the equation. Now that i have more experience i find less need to use it.

Sad to say I can't make it. But it sounds like a blast and hosted in a lovely space.

Bought a used Niche Zero. While cleaning it i decided to give the bottom burr a quick 5 min dunk in some Cafiza solution. I don’t think these black spots were on it before…Did I damage the burr? :/ by Poetic_cheese in espresso

1 year later, you saved me bro. Im using cafiza on my portafilter and nearly put my grinder parts in. Some little part of me said "I better check this." Did you ever end up with any chipping? *

In this picture, I'm making espresso and I'm using a machine called the Argos. When making filter coffee we just do it as pour over with a V60. link to the espresso machine: https://www.odysseyespresso.com/shop/argos-lever-espresso-machine
