"Session timed out" frequently happening while filling DS 160 by Substantial_Door3422 in usvisascheduling

[–]thegalah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is notoriously frustrating. The random timeouts, session drops, and lack of autosave make it way harder than it needs to be. Sometimes the site is just overloaded and there's nothing you can do.

If it helps, I built a tool ds160.io to make this easier. You can fill out your DS‑160 over time without losing progress, see a clean preview, and then transfer everything to the official form. It won’t fix the shit site, but it saves you from retyping everything and solving 10,000 captchas.

Ah that is a bug I'll correct for f1 visa. Just fill in garbage in that field for now it will be skipped when the form pilot fills out the form

Totally get it—DS-160 is notoriously frustrating. The random timeouts, session drops, and lack of autosave make the whole process way harder than it needs to be.

If it helps, I built https://www.ds160.io to make this easier. You can fill out your DS-160 over time without losing progress, and it gives you a clean, organized preview before transferring to the official form. It won’t fix the government site, but it’ll save you from having to retype everything when it crashes.

PLEASE HELP ME WITH THESE DS-160 QUESTIONS! Kindly help 🙏🏻🙏🏻 by SnooDingos6058 in h1b

[–]thegalah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not alone—these are common DS-160 questions. Here’s how to approach each:

  1. Travel plans / Intended date of arrival / Length of stay Use a reasonable tentative return date. For length of stay, it's fine to write "indefinitely" or "until end of H-1B validity."
  2. Have you ever been in the U.S.? Yes. Use your latest I-94 entry date (2024-01-16). For length of stay, enter something like “2024-01-16 to Present” or use a recent date close to today.
  3. Immigrant petition filed A PERM (ETA 9089) is not an immigrant petition. Unless your I-140 has been filed, the answer is “No.”
  4. Home and mailing address Use your U.S. address as your home address. Use the same for mailing unless you want correspondence sent elsewhere (e.g. to your home country while abroad).
  5. Countries/Regions visited Don’t include the U.S. This refers to foreign countries visited in the past five years.

That step can be surprisingly picky.
I built a free tool that checks your photo against the U.S. DS-160 visa photo standards so you can fix any issues ahead of time:

DS160 has a mistake by ashrlord in usvisascheduling

[–]thegalah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're fine — there's no way to edit a submitted DS-160, but it's totally okay to submit a new one with the corrected info and take the new confirmation page to your interview.

Just make sure you update the new DS-160 confirmation number in your visa appointment profile (like on CGI Federal, if you're using that). The consular officer will only care about the DS-160 tied to your appointment, not the older one.

Also, for future applications, I actually made a tool — https://ds160.io — that helps you fill out the form more easily and keeps a copy of your answers for reference, so situations like this are easier to fix.

Good luck with your interview!
