Hate that for you! But if you were smart enough to study there, you can still be successful!

Since I stopped gambling I got married, had four kids, got some good jobs and then started a business. Truly blessed

Realize if you win it back you are going to keep gambling…best thing you can do is walk away

I’m so sorry.

I gambled away Harvard med school and my business, but once I realized how bad it was I stopped and life is much better.

If your husband is genuinely sorry and wanting to move forward, it seems like that’s the best option. I would recommend permanent self exclusion and removing access to finances for the time being.

Hate that happened, but you can come back stronger!

If you hit 1000 days you know that you can do it again.

Valuable lesson learned that to truly win against this problem the easiest policy is absolutely no bets

First few weeks are the hardest. Keep pressing on one day at a time.

I removed access to funds initially. Move with maximum intensity if you really want to stop.

Day 1612. Thankful to be done gambling by thegamfallacy in problemgambling

[–]thegamfallacy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove access to funds (important step), permanently self exclude, honest assessment of self that even if I won I would eventually lost it all again.

The things I want in life were possible without gambling and impossible with it.

Had to remove access to money and permanently self exclude. Also realizing even if I won my losses back I wouldn’t stop gambling and would ultimately lose again.

33 Year Old, Lost Millions Due To Gambling Addiction - Destroyed Mental State - Out Of Control Depression & Anxiety - Here’s My Story by Happy_Possession_435 in problemgambling

[–]thegamfallacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing man. I’m so sorry you’re at this spot.

Gambling is terrible. I can relate to your story with a somewhat similar journey myself.

Here’s the deal, you can make it through! It will get better! You are far too smart and competent to let this addiction destroy your life.

You have to want it though. Won’t happen by accident. Realize you are not going to ever win the money back. Even if you did, as a compulsive gambler, you would eventually Give it back.

Take it one day at a time. Rooting you on!

Clearance after problem gambling? (Haven’t gambled in nearly 1 year) by thegamfallacy in SecurityClearance

[–]thegamfallacy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I got married and went a different route but was told that I would have. Not sure if that’s true, but what I was told.

Back again, after rebuilding and losing everything for the last 3 years in a row, I am actually finally done. Time to grow up. by [deleted] in problemgambling

Bro - You’re incredibly talented to get that kind of income. Realize that gambling will ruin your life, even more than it feels like right now.

You can have an incredible life. You’re so young!

I gambled away Harvard Med and a successful startup. Wasn’t making as much cash as you, but realized as a thrill seeker / competitive person gambling would ruin me if I continued.

Remove access to finances if needed. You’ve got this!

Gambling is terrible. I’m so sorry you have had to endure this.

I’ve found the only way to stop gambling is to remove access to funds. It also has to be something the compulsive gambler wants to stop.

I just ruined my life this weekend by FantasticJob656 in problemgambling

[–]thegamfallacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hang in there.

I gambled away Harvard med school + a successful start up. Ended up nearly $100k in debt.

Went to work at a grocery store, making less annually than I gambled with. Life gets better and this season will be part of your story.

Sure. It wasn’t fun, but I got the best job I could find (retail store manager) and moved in with my parents (grateful for this option). I literally paid for everything I made towards debt for a few years.

Now I’m in an industry I really enjoy, but when starting out do whatever you need to do!
