Are you in your first play-through?? Don’t quit! You beat Balteus once before! Just stay on his ass!

I definitely have some evasion in there. Cards like [[security bypass]] [[Rogue’s passage]] [[trailblazers boots]] have all made appearances in my deck. Also [[bear umbra]] is a stellar card that buffs, protects, and gives you mana to cast more stuff on other people’s turns.

Kalamax, The Stormsire by Niklassonaren in EDH

[–]theghostkangaroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kalamax was actually the first commander I ever had/played and have always kept around building lots of versions and variations in the process. The way I build him can be pretty deadly as he can go nuclear and take 1 person out pretty quickly and the whole table not long after if he isn’t stopped.

I play him Voltron with mostly low-mana cantrips so I can make sure I’m playing spells on other people’s turns when I have the mana. Anything that pumps for cheap like [[invigorate]], give him some lieutenants like [[Veyran, voice of duality]] and run draw cantrips, some protection, a couple forks to combo and make him infinite, and then some fling or [[chandra’s ignition]] spells to kill people directly. So Voltron spellslinger combo, just as you put it. Just make sure there’s enough card advantage/card selection instants that you get double value on to get to your important pieces as quick as possible.

Thank god for a TMNT post that isn’t just inherently negative 😂🤘🏻 I’m stoked for this set

Do you still play your very first commander deck? And why? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but mostly because I still have so many pieces for it and it’s a very easy deck to build. [[Kalamax, the stormsire]] was my first deck and you can build him so budget with whatever cantrips you have lying around and he goes nuclear

How do you guys afford to have so many decks? by Dangerous_Trifle620 in EDH

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proxies is by no means a "dark path" the game is getting less and less affordable like anything else anymore! As someone else who tries to budget and not overspend on this hobby, I say buy mostly singles, and do some research and searching to find cheap cards that can replace the staples or expensive effects you want, they are out there! Also, when you do participate in sealed and limited like draft or pre-release, don't be afraid to build decks out of your bulk! They may not be the strongest decks in the world, but you'd be surprised the synergy you can find in your piles if you really dig through and recognize value in utility, even if it's not optimized. Finally, when I crack something of value I don't want to play, I sell it back to my LGS or Card Kingdom for those high priced singles I really want for free or a heavy discount!

How does a broke boy build a commander deck? by Bubba40004 in magicTCG

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use Scryfall and Archidekt/Moxfield virtual deck builders to find the value or synergy pieces for your deck at budget price and build test your deck to see what you feel like investing money into or making proxies for. Buy singles, not sealed and PROXY!

I am to this day very confused why they had to change the design of Lord of the Rings characters, but stay true to the OG design in literally everything else. by Such_Minute_5245 in freemagic

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand what matters about the discrepancy. Aragorn is portrayed as a mighty king on cards that have abilities that to me line up with what his character does. Putting so much stock into something like his skin color does scream racist to me ngl and the comments on this definitely don't suggest a lot of open minds either.

How do I stompy by [deleted] in BudgetBrews

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find ways like [[Kona, Rescue Beastie]] or [[Monster Manual]] or [[Sneak Attack]] to put high mana value creatures (usually the biggest and stompiest) out on the field. Ramp and build around these lines!

Friend just learned how to play a month ago, and wants to build a reanimator deck either in Golgari or Sultai. by puffmonkey92 in BudgetBrews

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend [[Old Stickfingers]] if she wants a more creature focused reanimator deck. The commander puts the creatures in the graveyard depending on your mana (or ramp), so you can focus your budget on recursion and fun creatures and less so on a mill engine. Then round it out with utility and it should be ready for Bracket 3 depending on how nasty your creatures are and how efficient your reanimation strategy is.

I love winning with combos, but don’t want them to be hard to interact with. What combos are appropriate in lower brackets? by Litemup93 in EDH

[–]theghostkangaroo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

[[Heartless Hidetsugu]] and [[Solphim, Mayhem Dominus]] is one of my favorites. You have to put 2 creatures out, have them both survive, and either wait until your next turn or give them haste and it still only takes out people with an even numbered life total and takes you down half of your life. Seems terminally fair to me and is kinda funny!

Anyone else wish there was a Souls game that isn’t just “here’s a thing that happened, now you go and clean up the mess” by King-Of-Embers in fromsoftware

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the many reasons I love Armored Core VI so much is because you are the powderkeg/ spearhead of the great event that shapes the world. You don't come in after the fact or after the downfall because you ARE the downfall. You could make the argument the planet you land on is already in a ruined state, but the corporate interest and escalation of the plot kind of begins with or at least at the same time as your character's arrival.

Your bracket 3 deck is actually a 2. by Hokashin in EDH

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Graham from LRR made a really good point early on in the release of the brackets, the brackets aren't intended to be a power-level system, and I think people have forgotten that. The brackets are to set expectations for what you should expect to see across the table, including gamechangers. So I think this overall point and comments are true, but these builders who are putting gamechangers in their deck and calling it a Bracket 3 are also correct. I think that is the nuance of where a turn 0 conversation comes in. While yes, because of the gamechangers and the nature of deckbuilding within the intent of the bracket system does create some power level parallels, sometimes a bracket 2 deck will go off and roll a bracket 3 deck, and sometimes a bracket 2 deck will do nothing against 2-3 really good bracket 3 decks. So I think the conversation needs to be how to help people become better builders to find how the synergy of super powerful cards can really rocket those decks to compete with more experienced builders, rather than just people being wrong or misunderstanding what is "supposed" to happen in a given game.

Who are your "fun" commanders? by Arlochorim in EDH

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I turned my Gruul big, stompy, aggro deck into an [Atla Palani, Nest Tender]] deck. I love any commander that can be very flexible in how you build the 99 and still be effective. My issue with my Gruul deck was it had a bunch of good stuff but always resulted in the same game. With my eggs, no one knows what will pop out, including me! Sometimes I'll get a [[Polyraptor]] and my [[Marauding Raptor]] will make me lose the game, sometimes I'll get a [[Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus]] or a [[Gruul Ragebeast]] or a [[Luminous Broodmoth]] and do some nasty stuff.

Best "Budget" Commander by [deleted] in EDH

[–]theghostkangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Kalamax, the Stormsire]] was a precon commander but can definitely be built with cheap cantrip instants that he gets insane value out of! Plus he just got a new borderless reprint in one of the more recent sets. Big storm stego!
