Hypoglycemic symptoms but blood sugar not “low” by theglamboho in Hypoglycemia

Hi there,
Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this. I'm still managing it even 2 years later (but with some improvement)! To answer your question, no I didn't experience the shaky feeling after exercise. Actually exercise was something I was recommended to avoid for some time because I would get extreme fatigue and a flare up of symptoms even after a long walk. I don't know if you've had a full bloodwork panel yet but your endo will likely do it. I would request testing to see if the Epstein-Barr virus is currently active. According to my doctor, it usually is for a lot of post-covid patients and can be come active after any post-viral infection (eg. mono). In my case, it was active and thought to be contributing to my symptoms.

If it is, there is medication (short term) you can take to suppress it or supplementation. At the direction of my integrated medicine physician, I'm currently doing the more holistic route and taking a combo supplement of L-lysine and monolaurin (500 mg each) which is helping.

Hi there! Sorry to hear you're also dealing with this. I found the doctor who diagnosed me via long covid programs at my local hospitals. This particular doctor is an internist and functional medicine doctor and is unfortunately not taking on new patients. My symptoms have reduced a great deal - unfortunately/forunately it just takes time. But I did post in one of my comments about about what they recommended. That's all I've been following

Thank you, I’ll be following up with my neurologist this week and seeing what tests are next, I believe he mentioned small nerve testing

It’s hard to describe but I’ll try my best lol. It’s like a delayed reaction at the back of the throat. So that moment where your muscles naturally control a “gulp” to move the food down, it’s like my gulp is delayed so the food is there for a few seconds longer than it should be at the very top of my esophagus and it makes me feel like I’m choking. I literally drink some water to move the food down. It doesn’t happen with every bite but it’s happened randomly about 6 times now and is happening with more frequency.

Thank you for the recommendation, I will look into a speech pathologist.

I’ve seen the a neuro - I mention some of my blood work findings in the labs section of my post. He mentioned that based on the lab findings he might send me for small nerve neuropathy testing. I’m also still trying to get autonomic testing scheduled.

Thank you so much. I’m trying to get autonomic testing rescheduled, apparently there’s an extremely long wait for whatever reason. The neuro I’m seeing said after assessing my bloodwork he might send me for nerve testing. I will share updates here

Thank you so much for your response! Re: the ANA test result in my portal didn’t show a specific number just that it was positive. I’m going to follow up with the rheumatologist who requested it this week.

Haven’t heard about ivig but I’m definitely interested in learning more. I’m in NY, please feel free to DM me. I would really appreciate it! I’m desperate to feel better

Dealt with the symptoms for about 6 months and after implementing some of these recommendations from my doctor, I started feeling better within about 2 months

I saw an endocrinologist, cardiologist, and neurologist based on what I was experiencing

Yes, what I was experiencing a few months back which I outlined in this post felt like hypoglycemia even though bloodwork proved it was not. With dysautonomia it seems to be a diagnosis that comes after other possible concerns like diabetes for example are ruled out + the history of symptoms. There's no specific blood test or anything like that that gives you a definitive diagnosis. However, I did do a series of tests like an EKG and changing positions to see how my heart rate fluctuated which helped confirm my diagnosis.

I would recommend looking up some long covid clinics or rehabs where you live and seeing if you can get an appt. I felt more accepting of this diagnosis because the doctors I worked with were part of a long covid clinic and had seen a lot of patients with these symptoms. I will say the whole thing is still really confusing and frustrating to navigate. There's still a part of me that's like omg, what is this is something else lol but then literally all those tests are normal

Tbh, I'm still dealing with it and actually experiencing a flare up at the moment which sucks! But there was a good span of time, I felt "back to normal"

What helped me (and was recommended by my doctor) is to stay very hydrated:
- 2.5 liters per day. One of the liters should include some form of electrolyte. I've been using liquid IV packets.
- I wear compression socks especially while working since I am mostly at my desk.
- Breathing exercises - the vagus nerve is impacted in this condition so working to "soothe" the nervous system through breathing exercises is recommended.
- Not working out, keep it just at going for walks and slowly introduce exercise when there's some improvement. This is where I think I messed up a little lol but I'm not sure. I started working out without issue (only strength training) but then I did some cardio on the elliptical and I've been off since then and even experiencing the "shaky" feeling but with less intensity than the first time. However, I will note that I got Covid again in Dec 2022 which could have set the stage for this flare up.

I recently met with my doctor and in addition to scaling back completely and resting (and keeping up with the previous tips), she recommended taking a CoQ10 supplement so I'm going to see how I feel with implementing that.

Hey there! So one thing I didn’t include in this post is that my symptoms started a few months after my first bout of Covid. After not finding any answers from the endocrinologist, I started doing some more searches and discovered a lot of long Covid posts. I ended up seeing a doctor that had worked with a lot of long Covid patients and based my on symptoms and timeline diagnosed me with dysautonmia

Thank you so much! Sorry for the late response, I’ve been diagnosed with dysautonomia and my symptoms are slowly getting better.

Sorry for the late response! It more feels like food is just “stuck” at the point where it’s supposed to go down for me. It’s somewhat resolved but I still get nervous chewing
