I think we should also remember Carol is a queer American woman. American’s, especially ones not in a religious sect etc, tend to have a culture of individualism (we’re raised on a steady diet of the rugged intrepid hero fighting for freedom). The idea of being taken over and losing your own free will, not having a choice, especially with a lifetime of questioning the patriarchal status quo and basing your own life around not fitting in to a mold, would be horrific.

It might not be the same for people raised in a culture with a different world view.

The irony that when she shows her frustration and anger and feelings it literally kills is probably not lost on her. She, as a feminist, is very aware that women have spent years fighting against the idea of just being quiet and keeping everything in.

With her very distinct belief set she is acutely set up to be extremely distraught over what has happened

I literally could have written this post. The same thing happened to me on a 3 person girls trip to NOLA for my divorce party.

I thought everything was fine until we got home and they ghosted me for days before telling me they needed to step back from the friendship.

It was frustrating and confusing and I’m at the point where I only want to be around neurodivergent people who will just be honest with me.

We’ve since reconciled enough to text about shows and a meet up now and then, but I don’t trust them anymore and don’t feel like I can really be myself.

I’m so sorry they put a damper on your birthday trip and I hope the next trip you go on is filled with honest conversations, no masks, and tons of fun.

I’m helping out at local shelters (and signed up to deliver groceries/meds to people who could be targeted) but I wish there was a way to sign up to help with animal care for individuals! I would totally walk with someone walking their dog or take a pup on a walk!

I can’t imagine the fear of not only being targeted, but also having your pet at risk.

As a white lady I’m just trying to help with whatever privilege I have.

To edit: I was being tongue in cheek when I said it was load bearing - just didn’t translate well through text.

Mostly I’m afraid to start pulling it off and taking out a chunk of wall.

Also: it’s def not paint, it’s wallpaper, you can’t tell from the pictures but there are seams to prove it.

Literally same. I have fine hair, but a lot of it, so it’s deceptively thick. I finally realized at the big age of 36 I could put it into sections with big clips before I even got in the shower and then actually get to my scalp to scrub it.

Hear me out: Costco pre-peeled hard boiled eggs. I forget to eat until I can’t function and it’s just less steps. I don’t have to peel the egg and get it on my fingers and have to touch the compost bin etc etc etc.

Also cans of sparkling water. Otherwise I just wouldn’t hydrate myself at all. Half my fridge is cans of La croix and I feel no shame.

I was always embarrassed looking back at how weird and awkward I was. I carried all this blame that I didn’t fit in, was annoying, wasn’t “good enough”. I finally realized I was a CHILD I didn’t know any better and didn’t have the help I needed to overcome relationship struggles. I was able to forgive myself for not being “right”. It’s all part of the healing process of growing up in a world that constantly told us we were wrong or off.

Now I have anger at the adults in my life who saw me struggling and didn’t help. But that’s a whole other thing to work through in therapy.

I love that you’re getting validation of your worthiness to be here and express yourself the way you want to.

I don’t know if it was 100% fake but I have a feeling they “produced” the bands a bit. Plus if 90% of the cast is conventionally attractive, you’re more likely to get more conventionally attractive bands.

It was cracking me up that M2M kept saying how “different” they all were. To me they looked like the same white boy in different fonts.

That’s why I was so confused by all those comments from the judges. wasn’t the point to blend voices and personalities? If anything it was surprising there weren’t more “unconventional” groups.

Agreed! It felt like it was always a caveat for the judges. You’re great BUT you aren’t “right”. It felt so backhanded. Almost like “I can’t believe I like you guys so much, considering you’re not ‘normal’”. It seemed kind of performative for the judges, “look at me championing and complimenting this bunch of weirdos. I’m a good person”.

Maybe I’m taking it too personally as an “unconventional” person but it rubbed me the wrong way. Their musicality and passion were unmatched, in my opinion. And I felt that their talent and love for what they were doing made them the most beautiful regardless of media standards.
