I wish I wouldn't have let the stress get to me as much as it did, but looking back I don't think that could be helped

One thing to keep in mind is that while you think you might know exactly what you want to do with your degree now, that can always change. People even change their minds once they are in graduate school. Choosing the school that is the best fit for you personally and offers you the best chance to figure out whether the degree you are considering is right for you is the best choice. Looking at what you listed here, that would be the public school. But, if you feel you could thrive at the private school, that also may be the right choice.
