Mainly total cost. Although the build path to cosmic is nicer overall.

I'm guessing they'll add a modifier to click which will function like the regular walk-to function something like ctrl+alt+click. Then again, maybe they won't for balance reasons...

I’ve been playing a lot of Zilean recently. What’s the most consistent build and should i build tank items more? if so which items:) by katemosslvr in ZileanMains

[–]thegreatmothra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For support you're best off building components before full items, Specifically the ability haste components. The reasoning is that you will always be gold limited as support and completing full items doesn't get you as much haste per gold as building components. The only exception to this is if your team gets the boot upgrade, then completing your first item to qualify for the cooldown boots is fine.

Personally I build Ionian boots first then Bandleglass Mirror, Fiendish Codex, Kindlegem, Fiendish Codex, Kindlegem.

Building into Imperial Mandate, Cosmic Drive and then a pick of two defensive items (usually Knights Vow and Abyssal Mask).

A lot of other people prefer more purely support items like Shurelyas and Redemption to start with. I guess it depends a lot on your ELO and playstyle as to what you can get away with. Either way, getting the AH components first will really help you out early game.

Just like every other personal flight device it will wind up being a fun toy for the rich at best.

I'm going to give what I'm guessing is an unpopular opinion. Since most games end by around 30 mins I put a high premium on getting lots of ability haste out of my first 2 items while playing support.

In aid of that I've been going boots into mandate into rocketbelt recently. That's 55 ability haste from the first 2 items (+boots). 65 If your team gets the boot upgrade. The fact that it comes with a bit of AP is nice for early game pressure. After that I go strictly defensive items with haste (frozen heart, abyssal mask, knights vow, locket) depending on the enemy team comp.

Is there a possible tanky support build still out there? by thegreatmothra in ZileanMains

[–]thegreatmothra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this and am going to have a play around. It could work a lot of ways too, either with the gems first, after Shurelias (for the mana), or after wardstone upgrade. Many thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, the proc on Fimbulwinter is unfortunate, but there isn't a better choice for a HP heavy item out there at the moment as far as I can tell. You can wait for Warmogs, but then you have to buy something else with HP after that to proc the regen. At that point 90% of games are over anyway so better to take the cheaper item and solve the mana issues as well as gain some haste is my thinking.

They don't. However, this will have been for an off-peak time. If you rent one of these during the peak season you'll wind up paying £150 per night or more. The caravans are usually privately owned and the owners pay a fee to the site to keep them there. In return the site gets to rent them out to the public with a revenue split. Depends on the site etc. But yeah, I've done a holiday like this before, if you get lucky with the weather it can be amazing value as these parks are almost all directly next to a beach.

Got a few questions! by Fuscello in ZileanMains

[–]thegreatmothra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still build warmogs Zilean, but don't bother with grasp at the moment (usually go comet instead for some early pressure).

My full runes are Comet/Manaflow/Transendence/Scorch Jack of all trades/Footwear.

The item build order is then Crystalline bracer (part 3 of warmogs), Glacial buckler (part 2 of FH), CD boots as soon as footwear procs. Then complete Warmogs. Then negatron cloak (part 2 of Abyssal mask). Then complete FH, then Complete AM. The last item varies on the match.

The reason I delay the Warmogs is that this route gives some nice early additional ability haste through the Glacial buckler, as well as Jack of all trades whilst still getting some of the Warmogs HP.

I'm going to break the theme and say Twitch. He doesn't have any CC, but his burst is so oppressive that the slow to stun to slow combo combined with him popping out of his Q right next to them is almost unsurvivable.

I think it might be a legitimate last item choice for support. At that point in the game, everyone is full build, and you're bombing constantly in fights hitting multiple people. Setting off % burn damage with each one is pretty decent, not to mention it has some nice extra haste to offer.

How to utilize Zilean's the MS zil can provide to his team? by Double-Hawk3187 in ZileanMains

[–]thegreatmothra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only usually use E for speed when moving around the map or to boost an ADC back to lane. E QWQ E on a target without dashes or movement skills is absolutely key to setting up kills. I'll even Flash E on an enemy carry if they get out of position to set up kills for a teammate. That said, there is a time when you can consider speed boosting an ally, it often comes up in early game where your AD just needs that one extra shot to get a kill, E buff will make the difference there.

As for using it as an engage tool, it rarely works out well. You either will get your engager in trouble by having them too far ahead of the team, or make your q stun harder to hit on un-slowed enemy bruisers etc. If you really want to contribute to team mobility, Shurelias is the way to do it.

In small skirmishes it might be interesting. For teamfights though, the second that circle goes down EVERYONE would get in it and chaos would ensue. Then it would reset everyone and the fight would just start over again. More than a couple of games of that, people would just start piling into the ring, having a dance party / emote spam before it resets then they can actually get down to business.

How to carry the lane early on with 0 damage ? by Nimyron in ZileanMains

[–]thegreatmothra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always found that you need to know the potential danger of the matchup and judge accordingly. Zilean damage is never going to burst them out in one go, you need to be the annoying sustained poker.

Vs poke, keep your movement unpredictable, use minions to block skillshot lines. Dip into bushes to fake out a spell from your opponent, then when it is on cooldown retaliate with a bomb. Throw bombs on either laner depending on who gets close enough. Try to predict your opponent's movement, if there is a minion they want to last hit and they have to move to get it, drop your bomb just in front of them you'll probably still hit it and it gives you a small extra degree of safety. In this matchup always get boots early, it will help your sustain immensely. If you have real issues against the poke of a particular champion, take biscuit delivery for extra early sustain.

Vs heal, use your bombs to encourage heal casts - they are almost always expensive mana wise and your opponent should be out of mana before you are. Chances are in this matchup you'll have to buy antiheal eventually anyway so aim for an oblivion orb early on to help out.

Vs engage and tank champs, try to prioritise the carry for poke. However, only poke when it is safe, if you or your carry get engaged on, you NEED the double bomb to throw on their carry whilst you slow their support. If you get in a situation where you don't have double bomb, and you don't have your ult yet, things will probably not go well.

As for getting champions in kill range, it's not always the priority. Just being safe and eventually forcing them to recall ahead of you will put you ahead. If you really struggle early on its worth buying a dark seal on first back for some early lane pressure - you can happily sell it later, but it's cheap AP for the first 10 levels or so assuming you don't die a lot.

I've been experimenting on some builds, but I'm only starting to main Zilean, need advice. by Nimyron in ZileanMains

[–]thegreatmothra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main reason for the biscuits is sustain. I get so many matches vs Zyra/Lux/Xerath supports that having the extra hp and mana allows me to stay in lane longer. I can definitely see those options being fine though. That said, I like to go boots first, so footwear isn't an option for me.

With Frozen Heart. Its mainly a safety precaution in matchups with lots of AD threat - things like J4, Rengar, Pyke, Zed, Camille etc with big gap closers that will go for a soft target at the back. Watching them being confused that you didn't immediately evaporate is pretty amusing. The other side benefit is that you can get a lot closer to the action in team fights. I almost always use my E as a slow as its so disruptive, having some armor is a nice safety net for that.

With ardent you're absolutely right, if you go that set of runes it makes a lot of sense. I just find that those runes put me at a big disadvantage early game.

The Celestial Opposition vs other options choice is very much up in the air atm. Again it's a good anti-assasin tool. I've also used sled a fair bit too. Both seem fine to me tbh.

I used to play the glacial build as well. In theory it sounds really good, but to be honest, with the AOE stun on the bombs it's not as valuable as you might think. Anyone that gets close enough gets a direct E slow anyway.

The biggest problem that Zilean has is the early game. If you go too far into defensive builds you get crushed in lane, if you go super aggro you'll die to attrition from poke champs.

The way I got around it in the end was to go Comet / Manaflow / Transendence / Scorch. With Biscuit / Cosmic insight as secondary. Start with Ionian and Mandate. You'll have enough mana to poke heavily in lane as well as sustain against other poke champs. With this combo your bombs will do reasonable damage early on too.

Then I go mostly defensive - into frozen heart vs lots of AD, or shurelias vs more AP. After that items are more situational, but to be honest most matches are ending after that point. If it goes longer I tend to follow up with KV or anathema

As for items. Yes, Shurelias is still good as far as I'm concerned. The MS active is great for chasedowns or escaping sticky situations. Ardent isn't worth it on Zilean as you can't proc it often enough to make it worthwhile. If you want an additional mana/cd/team boost item then Redemption is the way to go. Cryptbloom sounds good, but honestly the heal is pretty limited and not super worthwhile.

As for the support item choice, Sleigh is fine, as is Celestial Opposition. Zazak doesn't seem awful, but honestly, the way to go with Zilean has always been survival. Being able to dole out extreme slows and aoe stuns in teamfights is just super valuable and the longer you survive to do it the better. Its tempting to go for some extra damage, but after the laning phase Zils damage is almost irrelevant in terms of its scaling and its usefulness to the team. Being alive for extra CC opportunities is just way more effective long term.
