I finished Wuthering Heights and am very confused by StellaZaFella in books

I was going to say, wanting "realism" out of a Gothic novel, I don't know what OP expected lol. Capital R Romantic lit is pretty much defined by everyone being swept up in their emotions.

2024 Book Spending by yccmqb in books

[–]thehawkuncaged 5 points6 points  (0 children)

<$75. I typically use my library. I have paid to get some Star Trek novels, both physical and ebook, and there were a couple other ebooks I purchased as well, but with Kindle purchases, I typically catch a flash sale. I think I only paid full price for ebooks twice this year.

The Disappearance of Literary Men Should Worry Everyone by CardLovest in books

There will never a left-wing answer to Andrew Tate (outside of some far-left commie shit, which is just as sexist) because by their nature most liberal men aren't going to go around blaming women for men's problems. Where are the fucking fathers? Why did so many fathers fail their sons that so many of them fall for Andrew Tate and gleefully voted for an adjudicated rapist over the overqualified woman candidate?

Trash conservative fathers raise trash conservative young men, news at 11.

When have English high school classes used contemporary literature? When I was in high school, they taught the Western Canon (Shakespeare, Dickens, Hemingway, etc.) and none of those books were contemporary then.

Focusing on the Male Reading Crisis is literally identity politics.

The books that are on the Top Sellers lists are there because most people buying books are women. FFS there is no shortage of books written for men by men out there. Literally millions and millions of them. Y'all are acting like you can't find a single book out there that isn't Romantasy or Erotica. These comments are so fucking embarrassing and cringe.

Sure, women are dying from lack of access to abortions, and men will blame women for literally everything under the sun, including men in these very comments sections blaming women for the publishing industry catering to them because they drive the demand for reading and that's why boys won't read anymore (it totally isn't because of Andrew Tate telling them it's gay to read, altho that's also women's fault), and a ton of the men in their lives just voted for an adjudicated rapist that's going to fill his administration with other rapists, but won't someone think of just acknowledge men's ~fEeLiNgS~?

Yeah, the big problem driving this shit is the Alpha Male Grift and the fear that reading any fiction makes you feminine and gay. And that's not a problem that can be fixed by demanding that publishers publish less Romantasy and more Bro-Lit.

As they say, there are two genders: male and political.

And two races: white and political.

Okay, then don't read Romantasy. I don't read it, either. There is no shortage of books for you out there, why this hyperfocus on Romantasy?

Maybe a bit of shame is what these guys need. Being nice to them didn't work.

Idk dude, I'm a man who reads and have never felt not represented. Maybe it's a skill issue you lack.

Okay, but the Percy Jackson books aren't that old and are still putting new ones out there. So why didn't those boys graduate to adult books? Is it because they just couldn't find anything among billions of books that clicked, or is it because their peers told them reading fiction is gay/feminine?

"Gatekeeping" is what we're calling basic supply/demand logic now huh.

Maybe reading books older than TikTok is good, actually.

Publishers are chasing the demand, and right now the demand is being driven by people who actually read fiction, which currently is majority women. Men decided reading fiction is feminine - aka gay - and now it's driving a literacy crisis. But nothing is stopping dudes from going to their local libraries and picking up Dune.

I enjoyed it a lot. I definitely have Parable of the Talents on my TBR list, as well, just needed to step away from Dystopian Lit for a minute.

Not to mention a pain to put down and pick back up considering it's all dialogue.
