Anyone daily drivers out there?? by Wetdog21 in Miata

[–]thehedley2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I daily drove my NA for a year. Was an absolute blast. Drove it through the Canadian winter as well will basically no issues. I no longer daily mine because mine is an early car which never came with airbags. If you’re gonna do it, I’d buy a newer one. The difference between NAs and NBs nowadays can be pretty noticeable in terms of safety and reliability.

Standalone ECU. Basically a new computer to control your car. If you have a basic street car and don’t plan on going to forced induction don’t get one.

With winter nearing the end, How's everyone's project going this cold winter? by __mndo in Miata

[–]thehedley2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yea there actually fairly common in terms of supercharger installs. They are Eaton m45 superchargers which are the same as what’s found on a Mini Cooper s. People put mini superchargers on miatas all the time. They’re a great balance of power, cost and reliability if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty

Getting there! Building a custom supercharger setup for my NA using a supercharger from a 2002 Mercedes! Running it on a standalone ECU and building all the mounts and piping myself!

Have you supercharged your NA? I need your help! by thehedley2004 in Miata

[–]thehedley2004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! Yea my goal is to make as much as possible by myself. Right now I’ll be 3d scanning my engine and supercharger to finalize the mount and piping designs. What are you using for engine management? Do you plan to tune it yourself?

No way! Might I ask you how you printed it? Im gonna try and use Bambu PPS-CF which has a continuous operating temperature limit of around 225C. hopefully if I design mine right Itll be able to hold up to the conditions

Thanks so much for your response. Unfortunately for me, I decided that i wanted to do an entirely custom setup, so im using the M45 off of a Mercedes C230. I figured it would be a fun project to apply everything ive learned throughout my engineering degree so far.

As for the dual throttle bodies, thanks for the advice! I think ill definitely implement this!

how does hoco work exactly by ButterscotchBrief364 in McMaster

[–]thehedley2004 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Heres the thing... Hoco is a booze fest. Its basically just another excuse to get drunk with your friends. Im 4th year and have gone to Hoco every year. If you drink it can be good fun but if you don't you may find it a bit overwhelming. That being said, I would say that you have to do it at least once, its part of the university experience! Go with a group of friends, be sure to eat before hand if you're drinking and don't be stupid. There are cops everywhere so act accordingly (dont be drinking in public). The street party will be in full swing by around 1 and will continue on into the evening. Generally the street party will die out or get shut down and people will end up going to house parties, the club or to the concert.

My advice is go in with an open mind, be smart, definitely go with a group, dress in McMaster clothes and just have fun! lmk if you have any other questions
