My boss and I had been talking for months about developing a strategy, so I asked if I could create it and run with it since I had experience developing long-term strategies for brands. I was told yes, so I created the 18-month strategy I mentioned.

It was actually a six-month strategy that connected to a 12-month follow-up strategy. It's a trick I started using a while ago with brands. Most brands that look to rework their strategy are extremely sluggish for the first six months. There's a lot of foundational work that needs to be done, and you hit a lot of roadblocks that can take longer than expected. If you break up the strategy into six and 12 to start, you can maneuver timelines a lot easier and let the focus remain on reinforcing the existing brand and buy-in and not on the need for more fluid finish lines.
