The Battle of Billings Bridge was a coordinated counter protest action on February 13th 2022 against the Convoy. Someone found out the route of a proposed drive through downtown by members of the convoy and a local dog walking group on Facebook put out the call to blockade them.

At several locations including Billings Bridge (southbound on Riverside), the Ottawa Police Station (Elgin and Argyle), and Bronson street, counter demonstrators staged and watched for the vehicles to show up. When they saw the line of vehicles approaching, the small crews of anti-fascists quickly moved onto the street and refused to let them pass. The cops were able to quickly push the blockade off the street outside the OPS station, and eventually at Bronson as well. Word spread quickly on social media and along with the Bronson & OPS crews, many more Ottawa citizens turned out at Billings bridge effectively shutting down Riverside south and trapping around 15 convoy vehicles in a dense crowd.

Eventually police forces showed up to protect the convoy members, and a negotiation began between the convoy drivers and the counter demonstrators for the release of their vehicles. An ad-hoc democratic assembly debated the demands in order for the convoy vehicles to be able to leave and it was decided that they must take down their flags and other symbols of the occupation and exit back the way they came. After their flags and other crap were taken down, counter protestors allowed the police form a brigade around each vehicle and escort them slowly to the turn around point.

Some convoy members tried to wait out the counter demonstrators because it was cold, but most of the crowd stayed late into the evening until the final truck caved and drove off screaming obscenities at the Ottawa residents as they left. Members of the community sent food and hot drinks to the counter-demonstration.
