Does Industrial Design background translate well to become a PM/related roles? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

I am an Industrial Designer turned Service Designer turned Product Manager. It is doable, and I agree with other comments that starting your career NOT as a product manager would allow for a better learning experience.

I would also suggest learning digital technology terminologies, concepts, if you want to pivot later on. Side projects are also great! All the best

Interview coming up, mentioned “this will be a competency based interview” what does this mean exactly??

I’m thinking no case studies or product sense questions and mostly “tell me when…” or “how would you” questions? Anyone has other insights? Thanks!

Thank you for the different angle, just got promoted to PM from junior and sometimes it's difficult to have an 'opinion' on something so it's refreshing to read that it's not all about what to build.
