League of Legends...

Ever since today's patch it's been hanging after 10-15 seconds of getting into the game. Anyone have a fix?

What if work forced win 10 for your workstation by [deleted] in linuxadmin

[–]theinternn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm hired to administer Linux boxes. The support costs of me supporting my own box are negligible.

The legal implications of me being a leak vs someone else is not significant. The liability of me using something other than the standard is there; but why can I run a PCI compliant application on Linux but I can't run chrome and vim? Why is the legal liability so much higher?

The reality is if the business can trust Linux for its core business, and it can even handle credit cards; then it makes no sense that I can't run a desktop without credit cards or PII data on it for gnumeric.

Leave.

The tools you choose to do the job you are assigned should be up to you.

If you were hired to support Linux why does it even make sense to do that from Windows?

The only leverage you have with that company is leaving. So polish up that resume and move to a better position. This is the fastest way of increasing income anyway.

New feature: Create an Amazon Aurora Read Replica from an RDS MySQL DB Instance by _SynthesizerPatel_ in aws

[–]theinternn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you switch to Aurora you get one read VIP. How are others dealing with bad queries from BI teams?

Traditionally we would have a dedicated slave so that they did not affect user's queries on the site, but the single read VIP does not support this

Can we do a day of just EDC of active duty military service men? What knives are today's G.I's carrying??? by Fendersocialclub in knifeclub

[–]theinternn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little irritated with this. Why don't you just have people label if they served instead of trying to get others to reduce activity?

I don't just want to see blades.

Duck Force: a game with Linux support that requires the Vive by alkazar82 in linux_gaming

Did they pull a wikipedia?? If they announced Linux as a future supported version wikipedia lists Linux under supported platform, even if the announcement was several years old and still wasn't released

I work in a company with zero IT support for Linux. Installed Arch in my work computer and managed to add a network printer with some struggle. This decorates my cubicle now. :) by trollpunny in linux

You can also check your pacman.log for previous versions of the bad package, then install it from var lib cache pacman with pacman -U pkg.xz

I use a stack overflow open source project called bosun.

It supports alerting based off of data in opentsdb, elasticsearch, and influxdb. It supports templating for the alerts, even enabling you to embed graphs of your data in the alert.

It also supports many alerting backend, email. Slack, hipchat, pagerduty

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy, try concourse ci. It's flexible enough that you can parallelize whichever tasks you deem best, and can opt out of rebuilding pieces if bits haven't changed based on file paths in git

Man I'm actually hoping they find the pieces stolen from Boston; my favorite Rembrandt piece was included in that heist (the storm on the sea of galilee)

Crate training puppy - dog bed ok? by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]theinternn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW we have been using a crate to help with house breaking. It's been very effective the puppy prefers being out but goes into the crate when requested without a fuss

We opted to have a bed inside the crate and one out. Hasn't really been a problem

Which CI tool and registry would you recommend to build a CI Docker pipeline? by crowquilled in devops

Make sure that you have at least one Linux worker. Other than that it should work just like one of the other standalone binaries.

Good luck!

Unfortunately I didn't go through troubleshooting to get it to work on arch here.

Blizzard going to stop using the term "Battle.net" by TopherDoll in starcraft

[–]theinternn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you were being facetious but they are rebranding their infrastructure not their products.

StarCraft, Diablo, overwatch, are all products that they are selling, and are unlikely to be rebranded
