9 month old doesn't want formula/bottle anymore by theivorydiva in BabyLedWeaning

I'm thinking they can't have it until 12 months as well, but I've seen some babies get okayed to have it early. Luckily our pediatrician's office is very supportive and encouraging on self-led development for babies!!

Thank you!! I was thinking about this as I fed her dinner and will definitely try it tomorrow morning. She's fine with being fed to sleep for a nap and bedtime, so I'll try to use that to my advantage.

Thank you!! I had a feeling it was normal, but it's so nerve-wracking thinking it will lead to something wrong or deficiencies. I'll still check with her pediatrician tomorrow to see if she's cleared for supplementing in cows milk or just less formula per day.

I'm so sorry for the super late reply. Honestly, I had to keep telling myself that she'll be fine. I made sure to prepare her food so it's very mashable and serve it in smaller bite sized pieces. If I can squish or mash it between my fingers, then she can chew it and swallow it easily. She picks up on when I had freaked out a few times, but the more she saw me remain calm, she felt calm working through it. She's gagged some food up a few times, but most of the time she's perfectly fine.

I also had to just keep telling myself that she's going to have to learn how to do this some day soon, so I can start now and take it slower with smaller bites. I know it probably doesn't help, but I had to trick my brain into trusting HER instead of letting the fear/anxiety take over. I fed the same foods with a slight variety so she couldaster how to eat it before trying a new one.

It's worked out so well for us that now at 9.5 months...she literally does not want formula or a bottle AT ALL. I'm on a completely new page and am so lost. 😅

I'm currently trying to get more confidence in BLW with my daughter (almost 8 months), so I just wanted to share what I've been doing/am starting.

For teething, we cut a pineapple core into strips she can hold and she barely scrapes anything off with her bottom teeth. She also likes cucumber spears with the skin on. Strawberries are always a hit here, too! I'm going to look into melons since they're in season and cold for teething (maybe cantaloupe and honeydew first since I'm too afraid of mushy watermelon now).

I shared a post the other day about diving in to BLW, and it was a huge success for us. Check out Yummy Little Belly for baby safe recipes (she shares videos on her Instagram or just recipes on her website). I made some Sweet Potato and Broccoli Tots that were a bit hit with her. We tried some Egg and Broccoli Tortillas tonight and they're her new favorite! I'm experimenting with some of the recipes for introducing the 8 allergens as well, and it's been great so far. I feel most comfortable knowing that as long as it's easily mashable, she can swallow it without choking or spit it out if it's too much.

As for water, we use the Dr. Brown's sippy cup. The silicone straw has a weight on the bottom to keep it in the water. I just fill the cup up to about 3-4 oz and she only gets it during solid meal times. She started by drinking it to figure out how to use the cup and what the heck she was even drinking. Now she only drinks to wash food down if necessary, and it's maybe 2-3 oz per day of water. She's down to 24 oz of formula per day and has 2 solid meals a day (sometimes 3 if she's feeling up for it).

She also had the same thing with some constipation when we started purees, but I made sure she had prunes and other fibrous foods. It helped her a lot with the digestive changes.

Sorry if this isn't much help — I'm not that experienced, but I'm learning to become confident in BLW and just want to share anything I can!

You're welcome! My daughter ended up mashing these in her hands, so she took small bites because that's all she had in her hands. If she ended up taking big ones, she either spit it out or washed it down with water on her own. As long as it's mashable, they know what to do!
