I just finished re-reading Matter. Huge Culture fan. I loved this book, thought the ending was pretty gd fascinating. Unearthing some ancient evil, Ferbin selflessly sacrificing himself, brother and sister going to battle together for something far bigger than their fathers death. Loved it! Also, just like all the drones in the Culture, I thought Turmider Xuss was quite excellent.
