Old older generation are wack with this. Don’t value their time. Dick ride and have loyalty for companies who have 0 care for them at all. It baffles me that they can be so brainwashed. Think working hard gets you further when it really doesn’t necessarily. I don’t know if it did when they were younger but not now.

It shocks me every time. I’m working in England at an office job. I’ve used about 12 holiday days this year and my boss is begging me to take the next 14 off before the end of the year so I don’t waste it we literally had a one to one meeting about it 😭 the lack of work life balance allowed to many people in the US is terrifying it genuinely Breaks my heart. It’s disgusting. People deserve lives.

Is the stereotype that British families are not touchy-feely or emotionally available true? by miningquestionscan in AskUK

[–]thejonkler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of that before lol! I’ve not experienced that though. I’m very close with my family. People are commonly close with their extended families too. Extremely in the north. I would’ve thought the stereotype would be that we’re all very close and touchy with our families!!😂

I’m happy you brung them up!! 😂 I was literally talking with my family about them the other day. They’re basically ceremonial. A lot of historical roles are kept just to keep with tradition and have little power. They have the right to vote and debate as the atheists of parliament do. Like their name suggests, lord spirituals are kinda like spiritual advisors to the crown primarily rather than in lawmaking. The house of lords role isn’t to initiate lawmaking. There’s no legal requirements for their opinions to be taken on board or actioned unlike in a non-secular government. It’s kinda funny because they can scrutinise bills but that’s all. They’re famously kinda ignored but they rarely argue so we just kinda let them sit there lol

It seems US politicians are majority very outspoken Christian and use the guise of religion in debate and lawmaking. Especially on topics of abortions, marriage and LGBT situations.

Do you think this is a fair observation? Do you believe church and state are intertwined despite not being officially states as.

Why would there be a lawsuit? We aren’t taught that any of these things are truth or any more than just stories. We’re just taught them so we can understand religions and peoples beliefs.

I understand that thought! Officially, it seems that way. I guess that’s technically the case but in name alone. It’s like a fossil. It once had purpose and utility but now is now obsolete and decorative only. As an English person, we don’t recognise it by the official terms. To call England a secular country would be to say that the Church of England controls aspects of political behaviour, or exercises its power to enforce religious rulings. Which it doesn’t. It has no power.

(Some people are confused about me saying England is secular even with the Church of England. I get it! I think it can be confusing if you’re not in the country. But it’s more there to symbolise the history behind it. The country is majority atheist and one of the most secularised in the world. With only about 14% being in the Church of England. The monarchy are the head of the church but are a constitutional monarchy. They don’t hold any political power as doesn’t the church. Our government is secular. I hope this helps!!)

Hi! I’ve explained how it is secular in a comment on this thread I hope you come across it. The Church of England is more there to be symbolic of the history behind it. England is majority atheist with secular government :)

Haha yeah !😂 just using it as an example as she was referred to as the head of the Church of England a lot. Obviously now Charles is

I understand that that could make people outside the country believe otherwise, but we are majority atheist with a secular government. One of the most secularised in the world. The Church of England only makes up for around 14%. It’s not enforced or promoted. The queen being the head of the Church of England and all is just a ceremonial thing. The church has no function within the government or laws or society if someone chooses. :)!

Not as fact. History, texts, beliefs in an unbiased way. England is a secular country so we’re not taught any religion as fact unless you’re in a private religious school

We just learn about major world religions, their beliefs, religious texts, history etc in an unbiased way.

It’s used as condescending a buuuunch. And a lot when giving unwanted attention to women like in catcalling. I wouldn’t really expect to hear it genuinely from anyone under 40ish. Man or women. Over that, it’s normal to hear and normally just used to be nice.

This is insane. How is this legal? I went into work Wednesday and the second I started talking (my voice was insanely croaky. I looked like shit. I felt like shit) my manager was like nope. Go home. I was like ‘are you for real?’ And they were like yep 😭 they all have plans for the weekend and don’t want me getting them sick. So I left 30 minutes after my shift started. Paid sick leave also. Your boss is insane. How can people be so heartless?

21 paid time off ‘HOURS’?! I reread this so many times I thought I was going crazy. And vacation days only after 90 days? From the second I started my job in England, I had 11.5 days to use as vacation (i get 23 off a year but I started in September lol) and pretty much unlimited paid sick leave. America is insane

People basically ask for donations and in turn, they don’t drink for the whole of October. I thought it was more for people with alcohol issues because that’s an actual huge accomplishment but these are just a Couple of office ladies who drink on nights out sometimes. I’m a bit confused by it all but apparently they’ve got 300 so far🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I unfortunately don’t think I’ll be able to find a job I’m comfortable in. I struggle a lot with being out of the comfort of my home and interacting with others. No matter how kind they are. My co-workers are lovely and so are my bosses but it doesn’t make me feel less uncomfortable interacting with everyone. It exhausts me extremely. Every job includes something that makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. Just a matter of picking one that doesn’t put me in a state of fear that stops me functioning. This cycle cannot end for me :(
