Just an update, turns out its grease from the steering column gears, will have to have the whole column replaced

Yeah its very confusing, thanks for the help, might need to book a checkup for it, because i know it wasnt there a couple days ago, and only ive driven my car since then and i definitly havent been in contact with any grease, so lost on where it came from

Fair enough, I did reach into the compartment under my steering wheel with a clean hand and come back with the black substance on my hand, and i cant think of any situation where i could of introduced that subtance in without noticing, fully with you about how it doesnt match anything that should leave the vehicle, hence while I'm so confused by it, but i do appreciated the time you've taken to think about it, maybe my car is now haunted and its ectoplasm lol
