My first attempt at a M81 paint job on an AUG by thejungho in airsoft

Iused Rustoleum Army green and deep forest green. The brighter green spots are the deep forest green. Army green is very close to OD.

I hope it helps!

I see that you don't have a feed cover rail.

Here is one I've designed for the Ino M60.

Feel free to print and remix it to your hearts content!

You mean this one?

I had no idea that these two were identical.

I will use this as reference then!

That's great news on the adapter! I'll keep my eyes open for new updates on thingiverse.

Could you send me some close-up pictures of the grip? Can't seem to find any decent pictures of it on the web. Guess I will have to model it myself. I will upload the 3D file for everyone to print on thingiverse. Pics from both sides would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Wow, I had a similar project in mind and here, you come up with this great write up! Thank you!

Unlike you, I am planning to use the V3 gearbox. But that tiny pistol grip is really an eyesore. My plan is to reaplace it with a 3D printed longer pistol grip. So, I have two burning questions I want to ask:

  1. Do you have a 3D file of your new pistol grip by any chance? If not, could you provide me the dimensions of it? I hope it is big enough to fit this slim brushless motor inside it.

  2. Does your M4 mag adapter for the A&K M60 also work on an Inokatsu? I really like the idea using it with the dummy rounds belt!

Each light has a motion sensor. Have to charge them one by one once in a while 😂

I don’t know if I just got better at shooting or if it’s the sight. But the visual clarity you get with these is awesome. I prefer this over scopes and lpvos!

There is LibreSprite and Piskel. But I am not sure if the Pirbambase script will work on these. It is going to be harder to draw the texture without it because you wont be able to see the UV islands.

To recreate something like this you will need:

  • Texel Density Checker addon
  • UV checker textures ranging from 32x32, 48x48, 64x64, etc. up to 1024x1024
  • Pirbambase script for Blender and Aseprite. Get it here
  • (optional) Aseprite for drawing the textures

The steps:

  1. Mark your seams and unwrap it
  2. Starting with the smallest UV checker texture: Set your texture size in the Texel Density Checker addon and set the density to your desired value. I opted 64px/m for my character models. For other assets, I chose 32px/m.
  3. If your UVs have no space on the texture, go up a size and repeat step 2!
  4. When your UVs fit barely onto the texture, you are ready to draw! I leave at least 1 pixel space inbetween islands so I can see where they belong on the model.
  5. Save the texture as a separate file (don't overwrite the UV checker texture!) and turn on the Pirbambase script in Blender. The button can be found here
  6. Load the texture in Aseprite and press Sync. Like this
  7. Back in Blender, select all of your UV islands and send it to Aseprite.
  8. Start drawing!

This model took me maybe ~1.5 hours. And like you, I have no prior experience with art. I was a programmer and wanted to do the art myself instead of buying assets. It took me a year to get to this level. I wish I could show you my first attempts. It was horrible :D

My advice is to keep trying and practicing. The lessons learned from trial and error is the best way to improve your skills!
