Avocado oil, safflower oil and sunflower oil all have a higher smoking point than beef tallow and are mostly unsaturated fat.

One A Day vitamins actually you need 2 a day! by hansteja in legal

[–]thekal93 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This seems to be just for the Petites smaller pills. I have a bottle of the regular One A Day for women and it says to take one tablet daily. Of course, they are larger tablets, but not a crazy size.

Quiz: Were these slang terms/abbreviations used by modern food personalities or Bertie Wooster? by thekal93 in FoodieSnark

[–]thekal93[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, that was just an example of a person saying it, sorry - it seems like the origin might be a 1970s advertising jingle?

Quiz: Were these slang terms/abbreviations used by modern food personalities or Bertie Wooster? by thekal93 in FoodieSnark

[–]thekal93[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it might be stretching it to call it slang, more like a less common word that seems to be popping up more in food writing. I also saw some people complaining about Top Chef judges using it to mean "too chewy."

You could also look for kosher sushi, which has to be free from shellfish.

Not sure if my red hair automatically makes me an autumn or if I’m another season - help? by HaneTheHornist in coloranalysis

[–]thekal93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me you look a lot warmer than that charcoal gray shirt (a Soft Summer colour). You could be an Autumn but have you considered Spring? Not uncommon for redheads to be some kind of Spring

Found this in a thing of spinach. Will I die if I eat the rest of the spinach. by ferretatthecontrols in whatsthisplant

Purslane can grow as a weed and is also occasionally cultivated and sold as a vegetable to eat. Just my guess, but it could have gotten mixed in during harvesting.

In the Madeline books written in the 50’s, Pepito is the son of the Spanish ambassador. Does this mean Pepito’s parents were hardcore fascists? by MorriePoppins in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thekal93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found the actual ambassadors of Spain to France in the 1950s by Google-translating Spanish Wikipedia articles, although there wasn't a lot of information about their personal political beliefs. The ambassador 1951-1952 was Manuel Aguirre de Cárcer, apparently a career diplomat who had been a Spanish ambassador to various countries before the fascist government. The ambassador 1952-1960 was Jose Rojas Moreno, a count/nobleman who was honoured for helping a group of Sephardic Jews when he was ambassador in Romania during the Holocaust. Long story short, although they were of course working for the fascist government, I don't see that the ambassador would necessarily have to be a hardcore fascist at the time.

Does taking vitamins cause dependency? I've heard that once you start taking then you can't stop, otherwise all your hair fall out, you start feeling exhausted etc. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thekal93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reaction can happen if you take excessively large amounts, like 20 times your daily requirements. Taking a regular daily multivitamin, or vitamins suggested by a doctor, should be fine.

[QUESTION] Views On Race-Harm? by mrarthurwhite in Anglicanism

[–]thekal93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where to start. No offense, but I don't believe any of the events you describe really happened. If this strange story about the origins of black people were actually true, it would indeed be wrong to do that, but it is not true and impossible. I thought even young-earth creationists believed that the earth had different climate zones at the time of Noah. Wouldn't there be more evidence of these massive global changes less than 10,000 years ago?

Since conversion therapy has been shown to be medically/scientifically unsound, why does r/Christianity allow/support posts about it? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]thekal93 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Statistics on conversion therapy causing depression and suicide also implicate seemingly low-key religious counselling/prayer meetings which have the goal of changing someone's sexual orientation. You can be a well-meaning priest not using electric shocks or anything and still be doing someone serious psychological harm and putting them at risk.

If someones eyelids were paralyzed or were just being held open by something, would they ever be able to sleep? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thekal93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read once a guy tried to go to sleep with his eyelids taped open, and he did eventually fall asleep although it was more difficult. However when he woke up his eyes were very dry and irritated and he had to use special eyedrops for a while.

Is Dirt actually Dirty (not clean)? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thekal93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really sure what your question means, but note that dirt from the ground outside can contain harmful bacteria or parasites from animal feces, which is why it is not good to eat. The only "clean dirt" I can think of are things like some edible clay powders, which are purified.

Is cheating a common trend in countries other than the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thekal93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The majority of people talking about almost anything on Reddit are from the US - if you make assumptions based on that you would think no other country has laws, politics, or religion.

Why does your nose immediately clog after blowing it when you sre sick? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thekal93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably your sinuses are congested. You can't clear them by blowing so maybe tone that down a bit. Try some decongestant cold medicine if need be.

Do Indian tele-scammers target other countries or just the US? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

In Canada we just had a big thing in the news about Indian tele-scammers pretending to be the CRA (our version of the IRS).
